In the News: It was announced today that Pope Benedict XVI will resign from his post on February 28. This surprising announcement comes on the heels of Mars (in spiritual Pisces) exactly squaring Jupiter (in newsmaker Gemini) just yesterday. It is often the nature of action-oriented Mars to trigger “historic firsts.” Jupiter is also the planet of organized religion.

This is a very informative and helpful site – it helps if one knows what the position and meaning or interpretation of the ruling planets for every day are. To know about the Mars / Saturn alignment and what the implications are, has made it possible for me to give my Aries daughter advice on some issues she is having at present. I now also can see why the Aries Pope would pick this time of ‘History Firsts’ planetary alignments to resign!
Just to be clear: The Mars-Saturn influence is something that the Pope personally had in his own horoscope when he tendered his resignation. He did act, however, when the transiting Mars and Jupiter were square to each other in the heavens, an influence applicable for all of us. Mars is often linked with “historic firsts” as the symbolic initiator of action. Jupiter also governs our higher beliefs and faith.
