“You have to be uncomfortable in order to be successful, in some ways. If you stay in your comfort zone you would never do the things that you need to do.” Lights Poxlietner

COSMIC WATCH:

Comfort zones can be cozy and reassuring for a while – kind of like putting meat and potatoes on our plate; we know what to expect.  But sooner or later, it seems that most of us have a desire to move beyond the standard fare and explore or sample something new, even if we may eventually, seemingly, revert back to our old, effortless ways. The thing is, once we have stretched ourselves, and allowed in a bit more of the world around us, we are forever changed, to some degree. Heard someone say the other day,“Once you view things from the top, things below never quite appear the same.”

Today, with the empowering Sun, in renewing Scorpio, trining optimistic Jupiter (9:34 am EST), the planet of growth and abundance, we appear to be receiving an enthusiastic, cosmic nod from the Universe to go ahead and choose new entrees from the menu, metaphorically speaking, even though we may be pretty sure, in advance, that unless there’s also meat and potatoes, somewhere in the mix, we probably won’t really be too crazy about what is served up to us.

Sarah Ban Breathnach, author of Simple Abundance: A Daybook of Comfort and Joy, eloquently reminds us, though, that we always have a choice in the matter, regarding whether or not we want to stay wedded to the past. ”Today expect something good to happen to you (Sun trine Jupiter) no matter what occurred yesterday. Realize the past no longer holds you captive. It can only continue to hurt you if you hold on to it. Let the past go. A simply abundant world awaits.”

What one action could you take today that would bring you more joy and contentment, qualities traditionally associated with benefic Jupiter? What do you think is also at the core of having an “abundant life?” Too, does abundance necessarily equate with having “more of something?” How might having “less of something” really be an abundant blessing in disguise?

Also, the sign placement of Jupiter, in our natal charts, along with how that planet is aspected, can provide us with clues as to how we experience a feeling of abundance in our lives and what variables/activities may lead to it.

Astrology in the News?: According to the Wall Street Journal, American Airlines and US Airways have reportedly reached a settlement today with the U.S. Justice Department over their proposed, planned merger to create the world’s largest airline. In astrology, both Mercury and Jupiter govern the travel industry, with Uranus specifically covering aviation. Perhaps the Sun trine Jupiter today, along with Mercury’s trine to Neptune, may have exerted a positive influence here in hammering out this agreement. Sun-Jupiter can also be representative of big business. Jupiter is also often a factor when gargantuan enterprises are involved, such as creating the world’s largest airline. Of course, we also have change agent Uranus still exactly squaring transforming Pluto, which can also reconfigure matters.

Famous November 12 Birthdays: Tonya Harding, Neil Young, Princess Grace of Monacco.

”When at last I took the time to look into the heart of a flower, it opened up a whole new world; a world where every country walk would be an adventure, where every garden would become an enchanted one.” Princess Grace

Enjoy your Tuesday! Live from abundance.

“I dream my painting and I paint my dream.” Vincent van Gogh

COSMIC WATCH:

All too often, in the course of leading our hectic, daily lives, it seems that many of us regularly lose sight of our own “personal dream horizon,” that dear guardian vista that cradles our noblest aspirations and intentions. We get caught up the busyness of our existence, scurrying to and fro, and we forget to fill up our “dream tanks” with the special premium fuel that is required to transport us a little further, into that sacred, fertile region presided over by our Higher self, or that part of our being that always has our best interest at heart, that always knows the next, right step to take to move us along.

Fortunately for us, we are seemingly in the throws of “cosmic enlightenment” now. We have mental Mercury, governing our thoughts and perceptions, in shrewd, transforming Scorpio, and it is positively trining dream-weaver Neptune, the planetary ruler of our imagination and the metaphorical gatekeeper of our “higher vision.” Mercury has also just stationed direct, giving it a higher profile.

With the whimsical, illusory Mercury-Neptune at the helm, our grand dreams often speedily get their angel wings. This is a very creative aspect that not only allows us to gracefully realign ourselves with our authentic dreams and intentions, it also favors all manner of artistic expression, such as painting, poetry, drawing, photography, acting, and dancing. Also, it’s good for psychic or intuitive development, particularly clairvoyance. What we see before us today, may very well be our future, tomorrow. We may also want to pay more attention to any messages from our nocturnal dream life now, which Neptune also represents.

“Throw your dreams into space like a kite, and you do not know what it will bring back, a new life, a new friend, a new love, a new country.” Anais Nin

What are some of the glorious dreams for your life? Today is an excellent time to meditate on them and jot them down. Also, strive to visualize in detail how you can achieve them, by putting the magical, envisioning power of Mercury-Neptune to work for you in a practical way.  Also, what one action could you take now to move yourself closer to making one of your dreams a reality? Taking action puts your dream firmly on the horizon, for all to see. The action, unabashedly, serving as your personal calling card. “Action expresses priorities.” Mahatma Ghandi.

On a another level, Neptune also symbolizes typhoons or hurricanes. There are heartbreaking news reports (Mercury) circulating about today regarding the tragic victims of “super-typhoon” Haiyan in the Phillippines, over the weekend. Reportedly, at least 10,000 persons are feared dread from the storm. The Mercury-Neptune aspect perhaps attuning us to the ephemeral nature of our existence (Neptune is known as the “Great Dissolver”), as well as possibly harkening us to show unconditional compassion and love to each other, especially to those who are facing formidable odds. “Every single time you help somebody stand up you are helping humanity rise.” Steve Maraboli

Famous November 11th birthdays: Demi Moore, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonathan Winters. “If your ship doesn’t come in, swim out to meet it.” Jonathan Winters.

Happy Veteran’s Day! Perhaps gone, but not forgotten.

“I live in my own little world. But it’s ok, they know me here.” Lauren Myracle

COSMIC WATCH:

Familiarity breeds contentment today as the Moon continues her journey through the sign of “nesting” Cancer. The illuminating Sun’s trine to mystical Neptune (6:40 pm EDT) also allows us to feel more of a spiritual connectedness, as higher doors of consciousness open up to us now. Also, this aspect helps stoke our creativity and idealism and can inspire us to spread around more peace and goodwill on the planet. At its noblest expression, Sun-Neptune represents an “ego-less” state of surrender.

Renowned author and speaker Wayne Dyer, who has written over 30 books on self-development and spirituality, was born with his natal Taurus Sun exactly trine to Neptune in Virgo. He is, perhaps, the perfect embodiment of the type of vast enlightenment and awareness that can manifest under this configuration. “You have everything you need for complete peace and total happiness right now.” Wayne Dyer.

Sun-Neptune individuals are often very charismatic and usually have a strong desire to serve/save others. Several U.S. Presidents have also had Sun-Neptune aspects in their personal charts.

“When you assess your own life, consider it with the eye of a gardener. Underneath the surface lies rich, fertile soil waiting to nurture the seeds you sow. Even more than you can imagine will grow there if given a chance.” Steve Goodier

COSMIC WATCH:

The Moon’s placement in “maternal” Cancer graciously supports self-care efforts and also poises us to be more protective and nurturing with those around us. Too, on the topic of self-care, Life Coach Cheryl Richardson (author of “The Art of Extreme Self Care“) wisely recommends that, “We need to put the idea of ‘self-care as selfish’ behind us for good.”

Additionally today, we have the Moon sextiling “energizing” Mars (10:30 am EDT), in the “diligent” sign of Virgo, enabling us to deftly tap into our own resourcefulness, while also serving to align us with our heart’s passions and desires. This potent aspect is also very positive for any systemic cleansing or detoxification measures, with “perfecting” Virgo governing health matters. “A healthy body is a guest-chamber for the soul; a sick body is a prison.” Francis Bacon

Astrology October 18, 2013: Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Aries

“Action may not always bring happiness, but there is no happiness without action.”  – William James

COSMIC WATCH:

It can sometimes be very easy to live mainly in our heads; to get seductively entrenched in the realm of our own thinking and then, consequentially, lose out on opportunities to improve our lives, perhaps because we’re not actively participating enough in the real world around us.

Mahatma Gandhi once stated that, “It’s the action, not the fruit of the action, that’s important.” He also said that “You may never know what results come from your action. But if you do nothing, there will be no result.”

The Lunar Eclipse today at 26 degrees of “initiating” Aries (7:38 pm EDT), the first sign of the zodiac, is perhaps a perfect primer to help veer us away from the tantalizing world of thought and into the self-empowering realm of doing and creating. Entrepreneurial Aries epitomizes action; also, daring and bravery. It is also through our actions that we reveal the nature of our thinking.

Depending on what house this lunation is falling in, in our personal charts, we may find this event has us taking action now on the matters governed by that house (or area of life). We may also have a chance now to cultivate a more self-confident and courageous approach to handling the affairs of that sector of our chart.

With the Full Moon Eclipse in Aries – the sign of personal identity – this also means that the Sun is in the opposing sign of Libra, the sign of the other. This Eclipse may remind us, once again, of the delicate balance that must be maintained between tending to the needs of others and tending to the needs of self.

It’s possible, with this Eclipse, that a “light bulb suddenly goes on in our head” and we become privy to some important action that we must also take, within a relationship context, to make our lives more meaningful or fulfilling.

In some cases, too, events may occur, out of the blue, that have a notable impact on our partnerships, or alliances. Sometimes, eclipses serve to “fast forward” or “speed up” situations in our lives. Eclipses can be very insightful and consciousness-raising. They tend to bring matters to a climax.

Eclipses can also be harbingers of endings. Too, if certain elements do pass away now, it’s often because they were no longer serving a useful or needed purpose in our lives. Also, we must learn to fully embrace endings, and to not fear them, as endings are part of the natural order of things.

“Endings are not bad things; they just mean that something else is about to begin.” C. Joybell

This lunation finds assertive Mars, the ruler of Aries, in analytical Virgo and applying to an exact opposition to veiled Neptune in Pisces (9:53 pm EDT Saturday). Mars-Neptune aspects can be more challenging to navigate because they often contain an element of vagueness/confusion.

It could be, however, that with this Eclipse, we just go ahead and carefully do our due diligence or fact-finding, as best we can –  which is what Mars in Virgo enjoys doing anyway – and then simply surrender the rest (Neptune in Pisces), believing, in our heart, that we are exactly on the right course of action for where we’re supposed to be. Accepting, too, in life, that there are usually a lot of gray areas that have to be factored in.

Sometimes, we maybe just have to learn to become comfortable meandering about in the fog, perhaps perceiving it as a grand Aries adventure. Or maybe we can use the murkiness as a giant launching pad to seed our Piscean faith.

“Faith is not the belief that God will do what you want. It is the belief that God will do what is right.” Max Lucado

Famous October 18 Birthdays: Lee Harvey Oswald, Martina Navratilova, Chuck Berry.

“Changes made to please others are unrealistic, but more important, they’re unfair to you.” Martina Navratilova.

Happy Eclipse Blessings!

“If we cannot end now our differences, at least we can help make the world safe for diversity.” John F. Kennedy

COSMIC WATCH:

There seems to be a natural inkling among many of us to want to surround ourselves with others who tend to mirror our own image. For instance, maybe the individuals within our own inner circle happen to share many of our same viewpoints, values, and beliefs on various things. Or maybe we’re all members of the same socio-economic class. Or perhaps these friends and associates resemble us on the outside in terms of physical appearance or even age. This common behavior may be reflective of the principle that there’s “safety in numbers.”

T.H. White, the author of, “The Book of Merlyn,” once wrote: “I can imagine nothing more terrifying than an Eternity filled with men who were all the same. The only thing which has made life bearable…has been the diversity of creatures on the surface of the globe.”

Today, with relationship Venus in positive alignment (trining) to non-conforming Uranus, the planet of change and diversity, it might behoove some of us to consider taking action to widen or expand our existing social circles a bit so as to include more meaningful interactions with others who may be radically different to us. We just might be surprised at what we may end up learning about each other by doing this.

Too, it has been my experience that often on Venus-Uranus days, more unusual or colorful types of people tend to cross our paths, unexpectedly, with seemingly no effort on our part. Also, a cool bit of astrological trivia: John Lennon and Paul McCartney met on a day when Venus was exactly conjunct Uranus in entertainment Leo! Venus also governs creativity, artists and musicians and Uranus rules genius and invention. Also with Venus-Uranus aspects the sudden alliances that form under this influence are normally quite exciting and dynamic, although sometimes they may not last too long. BTW, the late actress, Elizabeth Taylor, had her natal Venus and Uranus exactly conjunct in adventurous Aries.

Wanted to also add here that Uranus does govern the internet and computers and, of course, many of us have been able to successfully branch out our social networks, the last few years, through participation in online social media. Again, Uranus playing a pivotal role in helping us to stretch ourselves beyond our personal borders.

“It is time for parents to teach young people early on that in diversity there is beauty and there is strength.” Maya Angelou

Famous October 16 Birthdays: Angela Lansbury, Tim Robbins, Suzanne Somers, Oscar Wilde. “We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.” Oscar Wilde

Enjoy your Wednesday! Let’s also hope that members of Congress might finally be able to embrace diversity and opposing viewpoints, at least long enough, to come to a positive agreement on raising the debt ceiling and ending the government shutdown. 🙂

“You cannot solve a problem with the same level of consciousness that created it.” Carl Jung

COSMIC WATCH:

Assertive Mars, the planet of motivation and desire, has been in creative, self-expressive Leo, since late August, but today it shifts into problem-solving Virgo (7:05 am EDT), where it will stay until December 7. With Mars passing through logical, analytical Virgo we have wonderful energy to tap into for getting our affairs in proper order, over the next several weeks, as well as making significant progress and headway on tackling difficult issues that we have perhaps not wanted to face for a while. Mars in Virgo helps to strengthen our resolve and determination and can make us very disciplined and resourceful in carrying out our mundane tasks and responsibilities. It is also an excellent time to upgrade our skills and or focus on various self-improvement projects. Virgo also governs diet and health areas, so now might be a great time to commit to eating better or getting more exercise.

While Mars in authoritative Leo wants to run the show and craves ego recognition, Mars in Virgo is perfectly content to function behind the scenes as a humble worker bee, in proud service to others. “…talent means nothing, while experience, acquired in humility and with hard work, means everything.” Patrick Suskind

astrology for september 13 2013, Barry White, Chuck Palahniuk, Helen Keller, Maurice Chevalier, Moon in Sagittarius, Sun in Virgo, Terry Bradshaw, vision

“The trick to forgetting the big picture is to look at everything close-up.” Chuck Palahniuk

COSMIC WATCH:

A road map is usually of maximum use or benefit to us when we already know our destination and simply want to analyze or explore the various ways to get there. However, when we are murky or unclear about where it is that we want to go, it can be very easy for the details of the map (Sun in Virgo) to get lost on us. Kind of like we’re missing that one big “gestalt” figure that ties everything together.

Today, with the Moon in “big picture” Sagittarius, the Universe is perhaps forwarding the notion that we may want to try examining matters with our “hopeful destination,” already clearly in mind, and then try trekking backwards from there. See how our daily deeds or actions (the Virgo “dots on the map”) are supporting or hindering our long-term goals or intentions (Moon in Sagittarius) for ourselves.

Too, if we are currently operating without the benefit of a “clear vision” for our lives, or for a project, today may be a good day to begin fashioning one, as the Sagittarius Moon tends to make us want to “think big,” while the Virgo Sun is adept at filling in all of the details of how to get there. Also, always a good starting question to ask ourselves, when we’re crafting a vision, is, “What do we really want?” And, if we’re still unsure, or nothing immediately comes to mind, we may want to flip the question and ask instead, “What do we NOT want?” Normally when we do that, we’ll trigger a floodgate of responses, and then we can go ahead and start clarifying or building our vision based upon that process of elimination. “The most pathetic person in the world is some one who has sight but no vision.” Helen Keller

The Sagittarius Moon also puts a spotlight on matters of higher education or teaching, writing, public speaking, advertising and promotion, publishing, legal matters, long-distance travel, foreign affairs, or involvement with foreign cultures.

What one action could you take today to move yourself forward, in alliance with your personal vision?

Astrology August 27, 2013: Mars Enters Authoritative Leo

astrology for august 27 2013, frank sinatra, leadership, Lyndon B. Johnson, mars enters Leo August 27 2013, Michael Jordan, Paul McCartney, Ronald Reagan, Yasser Arafat

COSMIC WATCH:

“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” John Quincy Adams.

In the last few years, so much has been written on the topic of leadership. One of the best known contemporary writers and coaches on the subject is, John Maxwell. When it comes to actually defining leadership, Maxwell simply describes it, “as influence – nothing more, nothing less.”

In astrology, Mars, the planet that symbolizes our passion and drive (including our sex drive), and inspires us to do our best and be our best, is also the planet that signifies our raw leadership ability (along with the Sun). As it passes through the twelve signs, our particular leadership style is denoted.

Tonight (at 10:05 pm EDT), Mars moves into proud, “Leo the Lion,” where it will stay until October 15.

Mars is very comfortable and at home in Leo. Its leadership style here is very take-charge and commanding, and often it is quite charismatic and creative here. Some famous people and celebrities with Mars in Leo, include: George Clooney, Jodie Foster, Beyonce Knowles, Hillary Clinton, Robert Redford, Paul McCartney, Frank Sinatra, and Michael Jordan.

Since Mars is, potentially, a more powerful force to be reckoned with, when it’s in Leo, a fixed, fire sign, this suggests that we may also be able to more readily tap into our own personal power now and leverage it, over the next few weeks, especially if we focus our efforts diligently, and concentrate on a few key things that we really want to accomplish.

Too, this is not a time to fritter away our time or talent on low priority items, or for wrapping up loose ends. Mars in Leo is all about in getting to the heart of a matter and taking control.

And, of course, as we expend more energy outward, confidently shaping and defining our special cubbyhole in the world, we also will have a greater chance to spread our individual “sphere of influence” around. John Maxwell cautions us here, though, that, “before we try to lead others, we must first lead ourselves.” A good point to remember.

Too, the house (or area of life) in our birth chart, that Mars is moving through now, is being highly energized. We may find that we have to devote more of our time or resources to dealing specifically with the issues of that house.

“To be successful you have to be selfish, or else you never achieve. And once you get to your highest level, then you have to be unselfish. Stay reachable. Stay in touch. Don’t isolate.” Michael Jordan

Another note about Mars now: It may also be interesting to see what happens to the price of gold, in the coming weeks, while Mars, the momentum planet, winds its way through colorful Leo. Leo is the zodiacal sign that rules the precious metal. Yesterday, on the heels of Mars moving into Leo, gold reached its highest level since June 7th, most likely based on the uncertainty in Syria and the Middle East (Mars also rules the military). Of course, Mars can also be a very volatile planet, so wide swings here in the price of gold, cannot be ruled out.

COSMIC WATCH:

“Trust is established when words and deeds are congruent. Trust also develops when people feel safe and secure. When thoughts and ideas are shot down and ridiculed, it doesn’t take long to realize that the climate is neither safe nor conducive to making yourself vulnerable.” William M. Boast.

Providing a safe haven for our relationships, so that they can grow and flourish, and we’re able to freely show and express our vulnerable side within their borders, is usually best achieved when there is a deep foundation of trust between parties. Trust is something that, as Boast noted above, is partially erected when our words and deeds match up, and that the congruence is something that is normally measured or gauged over time, as what we say and do has a chance to come to fruition.

Today, the relationship realm is brought to the forefront because “lovable” Venus is square to “intense” Pluto.  On the shadow side, this is time when strong emotions can sometimes get the best of us. When this occurs, as we all know, our relationships can occasionally suffer, because we may be tempted to impulsively say or do something, in the heat of the moment, that we later regret, which, unfortunately, can also jeopardize the crucial “trust factor” in our relationships.

For instance, think of how easy it is for us to quickly sabotage our relationship with somebody by engaging in derogatory name-calling? Sure, it may feel good to us, to temporarily vent, but often no sooner do we get the venom out than we become bogged down with guilt by what we said. Not only that, the cost to repair or mend our relationship, if possible, can come with a hefty price tag.

Of course, just because we may be feeling strong emotions does not necessarily mean that our relationships are correspondingly going to be doomed or disrupted, or that our partner or mate should head briskly for the hills. It all depends on the manner of how we deal with them, and whether or not we even act upon them in the first place. That is where the matter of our personal choice and free will come into play. Too, when we are able to feel things more deeply, that can be a very positive thing, as that may mean that we are connecting with our passions, which Venus-Pluto can also symbolically represent.

Perhaps what we need to be focusing on more here, too, is, on what is coming up for us now, when we are experiencing these deeper emotions? What is their sheer presence inside us trying to tell us about ourselves, and our relationships? Also, if we do view our emotions as a gift to us, rather than fragile baggage that we must cart around, we may be able to deal with them in a more effective manner, and actually thank them for enlightening us further about ourselves.

Too, often with Venus-Pluto aspects, due to the transforming and regenerative nature of Pluto, it may be that our relationships are more prone to healing or restoration now, maybe after having reached, in some cases, a crisis or turning point. By examining the root causes underlying what we’re feeling (which Venus-Pluto poises us to do), we may be able to get a better handle on what is causing us to behave in a certain way, and this fresh new insight can then, hopefully, be used as launching pad to take our relationship perhaps to a deeper, more loving level. “But if these years have taught me anything it is this: you can never run away. Not ever. The only way out is in.” Junot Diaz

On a collective level, too, sometimes with the more challenging Venus-Pluto aspects, we are more prone to hearing about salacious relationships in the news,  that may also contain elements of manipulation, or abuse (Venus-Pluto can also denote obsessive behaviors, such as stalking). Interestingly, on the eve of this Venus-Pluto aspect becoming exact, there was the news report of the Mayor of San Diego, Bob Filner, reportedly resigning in wake of a high-profile, sexual harassment scandal (often the ‘square’ aspect forces issues). Too, again on the shadow side, Venus-Pluto can correlate with using others for our own gratification, or edification. It is often an element at work in power plays, or power struggles.

“I’ll be at Yankee Stadium, in the lion’s den, in Angel attire, representing my team.” Reggie Miller
