“Good communication is as stimulating as black coffee, and just as hard to sleep after.” Anne Morrow Lindbergh

“Mercury turns retro in Capricorn today at five degrees.”

“Please, would you kindly repeat that for me? You say that the mercury is reading what? Five degrees?  It feels more like about 70 in here to me.  Unless, I’m having a hot flash. Your mercury in your thermometer must be wrong, lady.”

“No, I’m not talking about the temperature. I’m talking about the p-l-a-n-e-t Mercury. Mercury goes retrograde in Capricorn today, at five degrees. Near malefic Pluto and hotheaded Mars, which means…”

“I’m sorry. But, I still don’t quite understand you. You also appear to be moving your upper right lip kinda’ funny when you speak. Are the planets making you do that? Or have you been, perhaps, hanging out with President Obama? Please, if you could. Repeat whatever you are saying, just one more time. The point you are making about the hot temperature on Mars is what? And how does it affect our hair?”

“Not Mars! Mercury.  I was talking about M-E-R-C-U-R-Y! And, nothing about the temperature, or our hair! Mercury the planet, up in the sky, is going retrograde! :)

Yes, a sweet, nauseating preview of possible coming attractions the next 20 days as communicator Mercury, which also rules travel, goes retro, or seemingly backwards in motion, until Dec. 30th.

Mercury retrograde is a period of routine maintenance for our minds, diabolically visited upon us by a wicked cosmos.

It is set aside as a period for us to “review” and “reflect” upon our earlier thoughts and decisions, with a probable eye to “revising” whatever it is that we originally hatched or incubated inside our moist little reptilian brains.

Mercury retrograde characteristically correlates with misunderstandings, or general mental confusion. So it’s always a good idea to clarify and double-check things, especially travel plans. Also, we may want to double-check the thermostat. Just in case.

“I was obliged to be industrious.  Whoever is equally industrious will succeed equally well.” Johannes Sebastian Bach

The fiery red planet Mars, signifying energy in the physical body, enters ambitious Capricorn today (6:49 pm EST), the sign of its exaltation, where it will stay until January 15, 2011.

Mars, which additionally governs the aggressive urge, is “tamed” or more “restrained,” when in Saturn’s neck of the woods.  Disciplinarian Saturn rules Capricorn, a sign associated with authority, business, and people in high places. Keywords for Capricorn are: “I use.” Mars in Capricorn is hugely talented at utilizing all of the resources at its disposal to get ahead.  Mars in Capricorn can be very “pioneering” and “enterprising” in business.  It is often a signature of an “executive.”

And, yes, on the shadow side, Capricorn energy can be equated with being “manipulative” or orchestrating situations to get an “unfair advantage” from time to time. No question about it, Capricorn does like its power, and the feeling of power, and doesn’t like being without it. So that is one thing we have to be careful about with Mars here.  That we don’t ride roughshod over others in our quest to get, or keep, our high-profile seat in the boardroom. Although, Mars in Capricorn characteristically tends to be pretty cautious, and will generally refrain from engaging in certain behaviors or improprieties out of fear of adverse consequences in the future. It tends to “naturally check” its own behavior, in other words, perhaps as part of its strong survival instinct.

On a collective level, Capricorn is also linked with government. And, even though assertive Mars is “more controlled” in Capricorn, that doesn’t necessarily mean that it is not interested in “spreading its sphere of influence” or “growing its dominance” in the world. It may be that a few governments around the world try to aggressively vie for more power now, but in a very strategic, well-thought out way, with Mars, again, ruling the need for assertion.

Last time Mars entered Capricorn on December 27, 2008, was exactly the same day that Israel reportedly initiated “Operation Cast Lead” in the Gaza Strip, after launching an extensive wave of airstrikes. Mars in Capricorn can denote a capable strategist or war general, whereas Mars in impulsive Sagittarius can sometimes symbolize a warrior zealously going off “half-cocked,” in search of the truth, without bothering to do the necessary due diligence, in advance, to ensure victory.

Too, we may want to pay closer attention to the world news with Mars’ pending conjunction with tyrannical Pluto, which will be exact on December 13th and 14th, although, for practical purposes, this influence is already starting to apply. Governments could get very aggressive in wanting to wield more power with this aspect. Capricorn is very concerned with self- preservation and security issues.

Also, we have the matter of Julian Assange and WikiLeaks front and center on the world stage, with Pluto ruling leaks and spying and espionage. Many governments, especially the U.S., are now grappling with serious intelligence issues and defense concerns (Pluto), in wake of all these cable leaks, and they may want to take some kind of swift action (Mars) as a result. Or, at least plot new strategies to deal with this emerging Plutonian-themed problem.

Pluto conjunct the North Node in Capricorn has correlated with an historic exposing of confidential government information, with aggressor Mars in fanatical Sagittarius square blabbermouth Jupiter, acting as the trigger point for it. What do they say, “Loose lips sink ships.” Have to wonder about the long-term implications of this WikiLeaks breach, and whether there may be new developments with the matter with Mars conjunct suspense-ruling Pluto, which loves to bulldoze and plunder.

Getting back now to a more personal level: With Mars in “reputation is so vitally important to me” Capricorn, we are wanting to put our energies effectively to use, in a practical way, so as to deliver more prestige and status to ourselves. We are inclined to believe that these two things will be natural byproducts, if we but apply ourselves and put our nose to the grindstone, and also, of course, hobnob around with important “movers and shakers.”

It could be, too, that we will want to become more involved in business networking efforts now, with Capricorn officially ruling “big business.” Especially with a new year on the way and its characteristic “new ambition.” Of course, Mercury retrograde (Dec. 10 thru the 30th) could impede or complicate some of our Mars in Capricorn ambitions to get ahead here, in the short-term, but Mars will still be in Capricorn for a couple weeks after Mercury stations direct, giving us lots of time to progress. Too, a lot of times with Mercury retrograde, we can still have great success in matters, we  just need to pay more attention to detail and following up on the execution of matters.

NEWS UPDATE 12/8/10: It was reported today that sympathetic supporters of WikiLeaks launched cyber attacks into MasterCard and Visa, and various other sites today as part of “Operation Payback.” I was thinking tonight that warrior Mars’ movement into Capricorn is sort of playing out here, initially anyway, as “war on big business,” as Capricorn rules business. It’s always very interesting to watch the events in the collective when Mars enters a new sign, as energizer Mars is such a catalyst for things to happen.

“Fanatics in power and the funnel of a tornado have this in common – the narrow path in which they move is marked by violence and destruction.” Oscar Otlund

Mars in Sagittarius square Jupiter in Pisces is exact on Monday, November 29th, 2010 (9:51 am EST), although this very potent influence is already applying and will be felt even for a few days after its exact.

At its noblest, Mars square Jupiter can galvanize us to take “heroic action.” Mars, the planet of energy and adventure, can signify “acts of courage” and “bravery.”  Aligned with expansive Jupiter, which symbolizes our “higher beliefs” and “philosophy of life,” we are more willing to “crusade” or “go to bat” for whatever it is that we believe in. We are on a quest for the truth. President Abraham Lincoln, for example, delivered the Gettysburg Address, perhaps the greatest, most inspiring speech in American history, with Mars and Jupiter exactly conjunct in the heavens. (Jupiter also rules political statesmen and public speaking.)

We also seem to have more physical energy at our disposal with this aspect, as expander Jupiter “enlarges” whatever it touches, and linked with energizer Mars, the energy in the body mounts proportionately. Mars-Jupiter could actually be characterized as more of a “manic” influence on the body, mind, and spirit, as our enthusiasm knows no bounds under its spell.

Mars-Jupiter is also associated with competitive sports and athletics, and gives us a great desire to want to excel and break records.  Our competitive spirit is very high with this energy. (Mars rules sports, exercise.)

A common pitfall to this aspect, though: we can go overboard, become too manic or driven, and end up plum wearing ourselves out physically, thereby, potentially injuring ourselves or weakening our body’s immune system.  So it is very important to temper and or restrain our actions, with this influence, and get proper rest and nutrition.

Mars placement in “forward-thinking” Sagittarius focuses our attention on the future.  It is visionary. We are thinking more about the long-term affects of our actions. We want to tender a lasting impact on the world, initiate disciples to follow our gospel. No surprise here that Sagittarius is also the sign associated with organized religion.

Of course, this Mars in Sag desire to tangibly shape the future is magnified that much more now with Mars’ alignment with preacher-teacher Jupiter, the natural ruler of Sagittarius. Jupiter, too, is tucked away in dreamy Pisces, which on the shadow side can be more “delusional” and “pie in the sky” Pollyanna.  Jupiter in Pisces doesn’t particularly care to break down and analyze its movements. Preferring instead, to operate “mainly on faith.”

Jupiter, too, although generally regarded as a benefic planet with seemingly positive impact for our lives, on the shadow side, it can make us a little too “full of ourselves,” if not outright arrogant, self-righteous, and extremist. Merged with manic Mars, we can very easily and fanatically ride roughshod over others’ beliefs or principles, feeling that we are justified in doing so, because we are only following “higher directives,” whatever that may mean. This smugness and perceived monopoly on the truth, of course, can end up being very dangerous, if allowed to run unchecked.

On a collective level now, too, we may want to pay closer attention to the world news, with this Mars-Jupiter “crusader’ influence as a galvanizing backdrop. We already have a volatile situation in North Korea where the rogue leader of that country appears to be pushing his own agenda, no matter the cost to the rest of the world. Mars rules war, so we must be careful now that Jupiter doesn’t stoke that flame.

Also, WikiLeaks founder is reportedly going to release hundreds of thousands of classified documents that U.S. officials are saying could endanger countless lives, pose security problems, and embarrass the U.S. and its allies.  Apparently, he is doing this to unveil “the truth,” regardless of the consequences. Sounding all very Mars-Jupiter to me, and if I may say, very fanatical. Sagittarius is also the sign of publishing.

Additionally, copious Jupiter in Pisces could denote information that is classified or hidden, as Pisces signifies what is submerged. Warrior Mars here aggressively bringing all this info to the surface. Too, Mars, as mentioned earlier, rules war and conflict, and reportedly much of this information to be released by Wikileaks pertains to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Jupiter symbolically “blabbing it away.”

Perhaps, in an effort to express the very best of this Mars-Jupiter aspect, it would probably be prudent for all of us to consciously try to detach or disengage ourselves from our personal agendas for a bit.  Get down off our soapbox long enough to see if the message or litany that we feel compelled to promote now is something that is really for the “greater good of all,” versus something that is really only feeding or glorifying our ego.  If we realize that it is more of the latter, then we may want to keep a lid on it and do something instead that will truly help lift others up, which is something that Mars-Jupiter energy is also excellent for. We need to keep in mind, too, what Abraham Lincoln did with this very same kind of energy.

The U.S. military’s highest decoration, the “Medal of Honor,” was presented by President Barack Obama on Tuesday to Staff Sargent Salvatore Giunta at a special White House ceremony. Guinta is the first living person to receive the Medal since the Vietnam War. Guinta was honored for saving members of his squad in 2007 during the War in Afghanistan.

In astrology, the planet Mars rules “war” and “the military.” Mars (the aggressive urge) also denotes acts of “bravery” and “courage.” On Tuesday, when the Medal was awarded, “Warrior” Mars in “Inspirational” Sagittarius was exactly sextile to “Lord of Karma” Saturn in “Peace Keeper” Libra.  The “sextile” aspect is generally regarded as “harmonious” in nature.  Saturn also symbolizes “hard work” and “achievement.”

Often with Mars favorable to Saturn, we are “signaled out” and “rewarded” for our past efforts (past karma).  In this case, a courageous military hero (Mars) was formally saluted (Saturn) for his bravery.

Sun Conjunct Uranus: Ronald Reagan Runs For President 11/13/79

This Date In History:

November 13, 1979:

Ronald Reagan announces in New York his “candidacy for president.”

The “Illuminating” Sun is in “Transforming” Scorpio and exactly conjunct “Rebel” Uranus.

The Sun, as ruler of Leo, represent leaders and authority figures. Non-Traditional Uranus, as ruler of Futuristic Aquarius (Reagan’s “Sun-sign”), signifies “change” and “revolution.” Scorpio is also the sign that rules taxes, debt, credit, and investments.

On days when the Sun and Uranus are conjoined, we tend to witness a “departure from the past,” in terms of leadership matters, and often “sudden developments” or “breakthroughs” that can lead us down new paths.

Reagan went on to win the U.S. presidency, the following year, and ended up serving two complete terms in office from January 21, 1981 to January 21, 1989. His presidency has been termed the “Reagan Revolution” (Uranus) as it was regarded to have initiated a “political realignment” both within the U.S. and beyond in favor of his brand of conservatism and free markets.

Pioneering Mars was also strong in Theatrical Leo that day, and Reagan was previously “an actor” before becoming governor of California. Mars in Leo can usher in more “colorful” and “charismatic” leadership.

The Moon, Jupiter, Saturn, and the North Node were also all in practical, “no frills” Virgo, maybe helping to foster more an acceptance of a message, on the part of the public, of a more “scaled down” type of government agenda and economic philosophy.

“Government does not solve problems; it subsidizes them.” Ronald Reagan

Pluto Conjunct the North Node in Capricorn

Re-birthing Agent Pluto, denoting power and transition, is exactly conjunct the Growth Oriented North Node in Capricorn today. Capricorn is a sign associated with worldly ambition and achievement.

Symbolically, this is an excellent time for us to reflect upon and embrace our own power (Pluto). Also, to perhaps review how we have wielded our power in the past to attain the things that we desired. Are we satisfied with how we have used our power, to date? Or, do we maybe need to “retool” (Pluto) how we “leverage our power” in the future?

Too, we may want to use this time to give an accounting of some of our past actions to others. Pluto confers upon us “penetrating insight” into the past, and the sign that it rules, Scorpio, denotes joint resources, or how we characteristically share what we have (our power) with others. It could be that we gain closure now, for ourselves and others, by explaining why we have behaved certain ways in the past.

With the regenerative properties of Pluto well-established, too, this may also be an ideal time to “re-fashion” or “revitalize” our image, especially our public image and worldly reputation (Capricorn). We also may want to “tweak” or even “totally revamp” our higher goals for ourselves (Capricorn) in wake of emerging new awareness (Pluto) of our destiny (North Node).

Fascinatingly, Former President George W. Bush’s new memoir, “Decision Points” is being released today (Bush has the transiting expansive Jupiter at 23 degrees of Pisces now exactly conjunct his 9th house cusp of publishing and self-promotion.  Jupiter also rules books.). As President of the U.S., Bush held what is widely regarded as the “most powerful position in the world” and now, with Pluto (Power) exactly conjunct the North Node in Strategizing Capricorn, he is revealing to the rest of the world, through his memoir and in media interviews, what it was like for him when he was seated in the Oval Office. He is detailing and explaining why he chose to use his power (Pluto) the way that he did, what led him to make the decisions that he made.

As part of writing his memoir, he also seems to be wanting to “regenerate” or “revive” (Pluto) his personal image, and no doubt wanting to re-cast (Pluto) his presidency in a more “positive light” for the future (North Node), something that is, of course, typical for former presidents to want to do, once they have left that office.

With Pluto conjunct the North Node it behooves us to be thinking seriously about our legacy, or what we will be leaving behind when we are gone.  Legacy is something that falls under Pluto’s domain, and the North Node of the Moon symbolically speaks to us about “the karma” that we have specifically chosen to undertake in this lifetime.

On another level, we may also want to pay close attention to other “Pluto-type” (power, reform, legacy) stories in the news now, to see how this Pluto-North Node conjunction is playing out in the collective.  Often what appears to be happening “outside of us,” in the end, can also have special meaning and significance for our own personal lives. We can always learn from everything, and always draw parallels to our own situations, if we only take the time to “connect the dots.”

Yesterday, for instance, Oprah Winfrey did a show with members of Michael Jackson’s family and his children, and viewers of the show got to glimpse a side of Michael’s private life that perhaps had never been made public before, especially his personal relationship with his children. Pluto’s ray, when activated, can reveal to us what has previously been “kept secret.” Pluto, as ruler of the subconscious, naturally signifies what is “hidden or submerged.”

Again, if you saw the Oprah interview, you also witnessed part of the living legacy (Pluto) that Michael has left behind, especially his children. I was personally very touched and moved by how much his children really loved him, even worshiped him.

When Oprah asked Michael’s daughter, Paris, what she “missed the most” about her dad, she said, “everything.”  That was a very powerful moment, and also again, “very Pluto.” Pluto rules those emotional experiences that resonate with us “at the very core” of our being.

Too, we think about the amazing “musical legacy” that Michael left the world. But, at the end of the day, if Michael were alive today, he may very well say, after that Oprah interview, that the single thing that he was “proudest of,” was that “one word comment” made by Paris to Oprah, knowing that he was able to affect his daughter in such a positive way as a father.

Elsewhere, we are also hearing about the ongoing chaos ensuing from the eruption of Mount Merapi in Indonesia. Pluto fittingly rules volcanoes, with a volcanic eruption a graphic example of the “expulsion of contents” from deep within its core. (Pluto) Again, one parallel here for our individual lives is: We all “blow our stacks” too!

On Monday, Steven Hayes was sentenced to death by a jury in Connecticut for his role in a grisly triple killing during a home invasion, a high-profile news story from the past that also speaks to the “dark side” of Pluto. The “shadow side” of Pluto is associated with cold-blooded murder and torture, an absolute “abomination of power” that, to most of us, is in impossible to understand.

Elizabeth Smart is additionally recounting, in a courtroom today, her previous abduction and sexual molestation (Pluto’s “shadow side” rules “forced sex” and “enslavement”). Also, there is a story breaking about “69 child prostitutes” being rescued in the U.S. and “99 pimps” being arrested. The “unenlightened” side of Pluto, too, is associated with manipulation and exploitation.

Yet, in another late breaking news story today, there is word that about $40 million in holocaust (Pluto) reparations have been stolen in a massive scam (another manifestation of Pluto exploitation at its worst).

So, with Pluto-North Node now, we are collectively being made aware of things that we were previously “in the dark” about. Too, with Pluto, ruling “the underworld,” there can often be a very sinister and darker nature to the events that unfold around its energy. Of course, it should also be interjected here that, how we choose to “use our power,” (Pluto) is ultimately up to us.  We can use our power to “do good,” or we can use our power in a harmful, controlling way that hurts others, and eventually suffer the dire consequences.

Also, back to “image-building” a moment. President Obama seems to be doing some “edifying” of his own persona on the world stage now and also trying to put forward ideas that could be characterized as having “a new spin”  to them (Pluto).  He was in India yesterday, for example, and talked there about the relationship the U.S. has with India, and how he would like to “retool it” (Pluto) in such a way that Americans do not regard India as a place to which “jobs are outsourced,” but rather see it as a place where new jobs for Americans can be created.

COSMIC WEATHER:

The Feminine Moon continues in Maternal Cancer emphasizing our nurturing instincts. The Moon is also lovingly supported here by Relationship Venus conjoined the Empowering Sun in Healing Scorpio. With Venus-Sun, we have perfect, soothing energy for forging intimate connections with others. Our creativity is also elevated.

Venus, too, represents “things of beauty.” With Venus-Sun, we have more of a desire to be surrounded by beautiful objects. Therefore, it’s a good day to go shopping for items of personal adornment (clothes, jewelry, perfume) or for decorative accessories to jewel the home front, especially with the Moon now in Domestic Diva Cancer.  Too, with Venus and the Sun deposited in transitioning Scorpio, it may be a time when we can snatch some treasures at estate sales or consignment shops.

Meanwhile, Energy planet Mars, representing our will and self-assertion, leaves Intense Scorpio for Visionary Sagittarius (2:48 am EDT), where it is in search of wisdom and higher knowledge. Mars in Sagittarius has a deep need for learning, and also an equal desire to don the soapbox and speak out on the issues of the day. With Mars in Sagittarius, we will want to passionately begin rallying behind the causes we believe in, and not be afraid to state our personal views and opinions. (Mars will be in Sagittarius until December 7th.)

Interestingly, the last time Mars entered Sagittarius, mid-November of 2008, is when U.S. President-elect Barack Obama resigned his Senate seat. Sagittarius is the sign of politics, and with Aggressor Mars’ entry into this sign, the upcoming U.S. midterm-elections, on tap for next week, are certain to become even more heated.

The intrinsic nature of Mars is “trail-blazing” and “pioneering,” so it could be, theoretically, that with Mars in Sagittarius, incumbents may have a harder time holding onto their seats. It could also mean that many of us will be more energized to get involved in politics, this election season, instead of sitting on the sidelines. Mars denotes our passions and tends to “fire us up.” On the shadow side, Mars in Sagittarius is more inclined to be impulsive, reckless, and scattered.

News Update: With Mars entering idealistic Sagittarius today the Minister of Defense in France announced that France and some other NATO nations may begin withdrawing troops from Afghanistan next year. Interestingly, Mars rules war and the military. Its departure from defensive, retaliatory Scorpio to Inspirational, Philosophical Sagittarius could be interpreted perhaps as more of a willingness to “tame the aggressive urge” out of hope that a “higher order of things” may prevail in the future.  Sagittarius is more of a dreamy, visionary sign.

Activities highlighted now: cooking, decorating, teaching, learning, writing, politics, romance, parties, antiquing, healing, beauty treatments, personal pampering.

Quote For The Day:

“In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock.” Thomas Jefferson

Famous Birthday Today:

American computer billionaire, Bill Gates, is 55 today! Gates has a Resourceful, Investigative Scorpio Sun, with a Pioneering Aries Moon (conjunct his Aries 10th house of Career), and a Nurturing Cancer Rising or Ascendant. Uranus, which denotes genius and originality, is conjunct Gate’s Ascendant, making him futuristic and a trend-setter, and also very brilliant and original.  In his money house, Jupiter and Pluto are also exactly conjunct in Flashy, Regal Leo, a classic signature of “mega-money.” Happy Birthday, Bill!

This Date In History:

On October 28, 1636, Harvard University was founded in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Jupiter, which rules higher education and colleges, was conjunct Venus, in Analytical Virgo. Venus rules “what we love,” and combined with Scholarly Jupiter, there can be an “abundant love of learning.” Jupiter, the expansive principle, also rules the Academically-minded sign of Sagittarius (which Mars is entering today).

Also, Venus and Jupiter were in a harmonious trine to Renewing Pluto, in Anchoring Taurus, suggesting that “educational pursuits” could provide opportunity for “transformation and firm footing.” No telling how many doors have been opened, over the years, for individuals holding distinguished degrees from Harvard University.

Patricia’s Astrology: October 15, 1969 “The Vietnam Moratorium”

On This Date In History:

October 15, 1969 – The “Vietnam Moratorium” is held.  Millions of people protest the war (including Bill Clinton, who was a student at Oxford then). In the heavens, passionate “Warrior” Mars in Capricorn, the sign of government, is exactly square to “Philosophical” Jupiter in Libra, the sign of peace and diplomacy.

“Mars-Jupiter” is an aspect with a great history of “firing up our passions and idealism.” Mars, the energy planet, energizes whatever it touches and Jupiter represents our moral beliefs.  We are willing to “do combat” (Mars) for “what we believe in” now (Jupiter), similar to the energy of today’s Aquarius Moon which speaks to us about getting involved in causes “greater than ourselves.” With the Vietnam Moratorium, the protesters peacefully dissented (diplomatic Libra) against the “war policies”of the government (Mars in Capricorn). Mars rules war and the military.

Often Mars-Jupiter is associated with “religious fanaticism,” too, as Jupiter rules religion, and the nature of  Jupiter is such (especially when it is aligned with energizer Mars) that we can easily “go overboard” and get “carried away” with whatever we are involved with.

Even though Jupiter is an “expansive influence,” and more of a “benevolent planet,” sometimes the pitfall with it is we do not know when to “rein ourselves in.” For example, Jupiter is also associated with obesity and excess. We can’t stop with just “one jelly doughnut,” we have to consume a whole dozen! So, moderation is often needed and called for with Jupiter, if we are going to judiciously utilize the opportunity energies of this great planet to the best capacity.

Patricia’s Astrology: Saturn in Libra 2010 and Same Sex Marriage

Federal Judge Vaughn R. Walker, on Thursday, lifted his stay on the same-sex marriages ban, paving the way for gay couples in California to marry in that state. Walker delayed, however, implementation of his order to lift the ban until August 18th.

Walker’s ruling a week ago, that a voter-approved ban on same sex marriage (Proposition Eight) was unconstitutional, was rendered with pioneering Mars in Matrimonial Libra exactly squaring off with transformational Pluto in Capricorn, the sign of government. Mars, the energy planet, symbolizes “bold action.”

Libra not only rules marriage it also presides over the courts and judicial system, so the federal judge would be symbolized here by Mars in judicial Libra. Mars and Pluto are both often involved with “historic firsts.” Pluto also represents “the masses” and matters that impact the collective.

Mars-Pluto can be indicative of someone “seizing power” or taking “forceful, transforming action.” It’s also a classic “war aspect” replete with power clashes and clashes of will. There is strong opposition to Judge Walker’s ruling. President Obama reportedly supports civil unions between gay and lesbian couples, but is against gay marriages.

Also, “Karma Lord” Saturn in Nuptials Libra was opposite Uranus in Aries when Walker ruled last week.  Uranus is associated with equality and gay rights issues and also represents change. With the Saturn and Uranus opposition, once again, we had the pitting of the old, signified by Saturn, versus the new, with the new winning out this time, perhaps due again to the simultaneously strong Mars-Pluto aspect which tends to bulldoze or reconfigure existing structures and protocol. Mars-Pluto is, unquestionably, one of the most transforming and powerful energy aspects in astrology.

On August 18th, Saturn in relationship Libra will be exactly squaring controlling, transforming Pluto to a tee. It ought to be interesting to see how this aspect plays out. Saturn-Pluto can represent “death to the past,” but often not without a bitter fight and, of course, same-sex marriage remains a controversial and polarizing issue.

Libra is also the sign of the scales and balance, and it seems Serious Saturn here is putting the discussion of this weighty matter back on the table for further examination, now that it is in the matrimonial sign.  Saturn will be in Libra through October of 2012.

Patricia’s Astrology, July 31, 2010: Bill Clinton, Father of the Bride

It’s Chelsea Clinton’s “Fairy Tale Wedding Day.”  But, what does the nervous “Father of the Bride,” Bill Clinton, a Leo, have in his horoscope today?

How about the transiting Energizing Mars and Karma Lord Saturn conjoined in marital Libra close to an exact conjunction to his personable Libra Ascendant, which governs both physical appearance and new beginnings. Definitely a time of stepped up, major life activity!

Too, if you have seen President Clinton lately, he is also sporting a “slimmed-down” version of himself, most likely a byproduct of Saturn on the Ascendant, as Saturn tends to help us stick to a diet and lose weight. Saturn is associated with self-discipline and weight loss, epitomizing as it does the, “less is more” philosophy.

Chelsea had also reportedly told her dad a few months ago that she wanted him to “shed a few pounds,” so as to look good “walking her down the aisle,” something that this very proud, doting Leo dad was apparently all too happy to oblige. Tonight, the CBS Evening News reported that Clinton has lost twenty pounds.

Both Mars and Saturn are also sextile to his natal Saturn in Leo today, with Leo ruling the sign of children. When one’s natal Saturn is harmoniously activated, as it is in this case, we are often rewarded and paid back handsomely for our past good deeds and actions.  Saturn pertains to the structures that we have carefully erected over time and in Clinton’s horoscope Saturn rules his fourth house of the home and family, so he is being cosmically “patted on the back” for the efforts he has expended in the past to be a loving father.

But, not to be remiss, Hillary Clinton, a Scorpio, and the proud “Mother of the Bride,” and the current U.S. Secretary of State, has lucky, expansive Jupiter closely conjunct her fifth house of children, traditionally a time when there is burgeoning new opportunity and success for matters of one’s own offspring, as well as a sense of deep personal satisfaction and pleasure derided from one’s own relationship to them.

Additionally, Hillary has both transiting Jupiter and Change Agent Uranus near her fifth house of children trine to her natal Jupiter, in optimistic Sagittarius, which is in her first house of new starts. A very exciting and memorable time in life in which one often sees a new reality ushered in pertaining to home and family matters. Both Mars and Saturn in nuptials Libra today are also exactly sextiling Hillary’s Jupiter, from the eleventh house of her chart, the sector in the horoscope that deals with actualizing one’s hopes and wishes.
