Cosmic Weather:

“The most confused you will ever get is when you try to convince your heart and spirit of something your mind knows is a lie.” Shannon L. Adler

Oh, boy! We get to start out our Monday with the waxing Moon in “keeping it real” Capricorn, the sign ruled by judgemental Saturn. Meaning, it’s also report card time when we formally have a chance to grade ourselves on our scintillating, academy award-winning performances (Sun in Leo), as of late, and decide whether or not they’re taking us to where we want to go, or need to be. Capricorn’s all about “less fluff, and more stuff!”

Thankfully, too, since we’re all presumably adults here, it’s not required that we actually have to show our report cards to our spouses, mates, friends, neighbors, etc. unless it’s something that we willingly want to do (most likely for bragging rights, of course, if we’ve been doing a good job).

Generally, when the transiting Moon’s in earthy Capricorn, we crave the security of organization and tried-and-true structure around us. We also tend to take greater pride in our work and reputation and are more inclined now to seek out recognition (and well-deserved pay raises!) for our mighty efforts.

The Capricorn Moon will also be having its notable, monthly meetup with “power broker” Pluto, this evening (6:11 pm). This more intense emotional energy normally predisposes us to go after our desires with increased gusto, passion, focus or purpose. It also potentially has a strong healing or transmutational vibe to it. On the shadow side, it can coincide with overly assertive power plays or manipulative behavior. Moon-Pluto is nearly always a perfect time to do de-weeding, to take out the trash, recycle or renovate, perform archeological digs, do channeling, investigate, have psychotherapy, take or review X-rays (part of checking what is hidden below).

Numerologically, today (8-12-2019) reduces down to both a “3” and a “5”. The “3” aspect suggests some reverence for traditionalism or history; it can also incline us to want to ambitiously climb to the top of the totem pole! The “5” element injects an impulsive quality to the day, and a changeability.

*All times EDT

On This Day in History: On August 12, 1972, the last American combat troops leave Vietnam.

Astrologically, that day, Mars (ruling war and the military) was at 29 degrees of dominant Leo (a critical degree) and exactly forming a waning trine to philosophical, politically-oriented Jupiter Rx at 29 degrees of Sagittarius (the sign which rules foreign lands and cultures). The Mars-Jupiter waning trine also perhaps allowing us then to more broadly see or grasp the “bigger picture” view/outcome/result (Jupiter Rx) of our “militaristic actions” (Mars) in Vietnam. Pluto, representing shifts in power, was also newly-installed in diplomatic, peace-seeking Libra then, at 0 degrees of the sign.

“Television brought the brutality of war into the comfort of the living room. Vietnam was lost in the living rooms of America — not on the battlefields of Vietnam.” Marshall McLuhan

Hope it’s a good one!

“It seems my heart is made of tissue paper; I wish the world would handle it more delicately.” Richelle E. Goodrich

The “Winged Messenger’s” transit through maternal Cancer (until June 26th) enhances our sensitivity to our environment and our emotions. With Mercury’s passage through the sign of the Crab, there can be more of a mental fixation with wanting to logically understand/figure out/detail what we are feeling, in the present moment, as well as wanting to chronicle what we have gone through in the past. Accordingly, this placement of Mercury is particularly excellent for studying such things as history and genealogy. (Carl Jung, b. July 26, 1875, who coined the phrase “collective unconscious” had both his Mercury and Venus conjunct in Cancer; this concept refers to the idea that our deepest unconscious mind is passed down to us, genetically, and is not based upon personal experience.)

With Cancer also being a cardinal water sign, Mercury in Cancer can impact our communication style in such a way that our emotions or private inner world are potentially more apt to bubble up and spill over into our spoken or written words now, which can result in our revealing, perhaps, on occasion, more about ourselves than maybe we had intended. On the other hand, this placement of Mercury is excellent for helping us to connect/bond with other people on an emotional level. It is also a very intuitive placement for Mercury. (*Note: Mercury will be re-entering Cancer on July 19th through August 12 due to its upcoming retrograde cycle.)

Overall, Mercury transiting through Cancer focuses our thoughts/generates news stories on home and family related matters; on antiques; women’s issues; on real estate and mortgages; on issues of patriotism, protectionism, homeland security; on agriculture, farming, or the food supply; on cooking (it is an ideal time to take cooking classes or write a cookbook); on the restaurant industry; the boating industry.

Question for Today: What part of your past do you consciously cling to the most?

Famous June 4 Birthdays: Angelina Jolie, Joyce Meyer, Michelle Phillips, Noah Wyle

“We need a backbone, not a wishbone.” Joyce Meyer

On This Day in History: On June 4, 1919, the US Congress passes the Women’s Suffrage Bill, the 19th Amendment.

Astrologically, that day, Venus (women), Jupiter (expansion, opportunity, diversity, politics) and Pluto (reform, transformation) were all in the sign of Cancer, which is also the Sun Sign for the U.S. Pluto was also applying (one-degree) to a square to Wounded Healer Chiron, in new beginnings Aries.

“There never will be complete equality until women themselves help to make laws and elect lawmakers.” Susan B. Anthony

Hope you enjoy your Tuesday!

Astrology April 24, 2011: “Emotional Detachment” Moon in Aquarius Horoscope

COSMIC WEATHER:

“He he would be serene and pure needs but one thing, detachment.” Meister Eckhart

The Moon vacates practical Capricorn for objective Aquarius (2:00 pm EDT) allowing us to experience more of an emotional detachment with respect to our feelings. Mercury in energetic Aries also continues its opposition to serious Saturn in partnership Libra, perhaps inclining us to want to discuss more substantive (Saturn) issues with our mates, including maybe commitment? (Saturn)

This is also an excellent day for studying history or science, or for learning new technology. Too, it could be that with the smart Aquarian Moon, we are able to masterfully detect where the Easter bunny has hidden all the eggs. 🙂 Too, for those who celebrate it, Happy Easter!

Famous Birthdays April 24th: Shirley MacLaine (77), Barbra Streisand (69). BTW, Barbara’s horoscope is very similar to my own. We both have Sun in Taurus, Moon in Leo, and an Aries Rising. Too, I have always personally identified with Barbra, since I was a child. I think her personality is a lot like mine, particularly her sense of humor. Unfortunately though, for me, I cannot sing and I don’t have her kind of money. Also, I wish I had a man like James Brolin!

Too, a peek at Shirley MacLaine’s horoscope reveals that she has an analytical Virgo Moon conjunct mystical Neptune, perhaps why she doesn’t mind “going out on a limb” discussing her spiritual beliefs before the public (Moon). Of course, she is also regarded, by some, as being a little bit “spacey” (Neptune). The Moon not only rules the public, but it also governs our public image. Shirley also has expansive Jupiter in Libra in her first house, giving her grand creative (Libra) talents ( as both a performing artist and writer), and also making her a natural teacher (Jupiter). Additionally, she has innate ability as a “peacemaker” and “diplomat.” (Jupiter in Libra)

Oprah Winfrey recently had Shirley MacLaine on her program. Did you see the show? Oprah mentioned to Shirley that it was Shirley’s book, “Out On A Limb,” that significantly altered her own thinking on religion and spirituality. I was really surprised to hear her say that. Shirley also talked on the Oprah Show about her experience with “UFO’s.”

Mars Conjunct Jupiter: Lincoln Delivers Gettysburg Address 11/19

This Date In History:

November 19, 1863:

U.S. President Abraham Lincoln delivers the “Gettysburg Address” at the dedication of the Soldiers’ National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The Gettysburg Address, of course, is regarded as one of the greatest speeches in American history. In the speech, Lincoln redefined the Civil War as a struggle that would bring about “a new birth of freedom” and “equality” to all Americans.

Fascinatingly, in the heavens that day, “Energizer” Mars and “Philosophical” Jupiter were exactly conjunct at 11 degrees of “Transforming” Scorpio. Jupiter symbolizes our moral convictions and philosophy of life. With Jupiter, we tend to look at the “bigger picture,” and how we all fit into it. Jupiter is regarded as benevolent and philanthropic in nature. It also rules politicians and public speaking.

Enthusiastic Mars, meanwhile, as ruler of Aries, the first sign of the zodiac, is very trailblazing and pioneering. It also is the planet of war (rules the aggressive urge), and signifies courage and bravery.

When we get Mars and Jupiter together, there is often an intense “zealousness,” a strong desire to “evangelize” or “convert” others to our way of thinking, our philosophy, as Mars “fires up” our beliefs and convictions (Jupiter). We passionately “go to battle” (Mars) for what we believe in (Jupiter).  Indeed, Mars-Jupiter is often indicative of “fanaticism” because it is linked with so much enthusiasm for our message and the causes we are espousing. Jupiter is characteristically “preachy” to begin with. It rules preachers and teachers, as part of its intrinsic “uplifting” nature.

Even though Pluto had not been “officially discovered” at the time, it was at 11 degrees of Taurus that day, which put it exactly opposite the Mars-Jupiter conjunction in Scorpio (Pluto now rules Scorpio).

Pluto denotes our “urge for regeneration,” or “rebirth,” and its energy and awareness tends to be very penetrating  and intense.  Pluto, in opposition to Mars-Jupiter, therefore, most likely served to magnify “even further” the passion and enthusiasm for renewal for the country that Lincoln must have been feeling that day delivering his speech. His message resonating at an optimum time for “mind altering impact” upon the public.

Pluto was also in Taurus which signifies “what we value,” and the Gettysburg Address was about learning to value “all Americans” as equals, a clear change from earlier consciousness (Pluto).

The Illuminating Sun and Mercury were also in Re-birthing Scorpio, and trine to the Compassionate Moon in Pisces, a Moon placement which inclines to make us more aware of our similarities versus our differences.  Pisces symbolizes our link “to the divine.” The Moon governs our emotions.  It also denotes “the public,” and again, with a Pisces Moon, there is more of an emotional receptivity and idealism regarding the “mood of the public.”
