Astrology August 7, 2022: Venus Trines Neptune, Mars Squares Saturn

Cosmic Weather:

On this seventh day of the week – and seventh of August – we’re seemingly treated to a mixed bag:

Venus in Cancer trines Neptune Rx (12:43 pm) – Potentially a nice dreamy romantic aspect. This influence inspires us to look for the best in others. It’s also a configuration that can incline us to want to get lost in something as an escape. Too, creativity may be kindled or enhanced. (Many artists and musicians tend to have Venus-Neptune aspects prominent, including singer-songwriter Stevie Nicks.)

Waxing Moon in Sagittarius trines the Sun in Leo (2:21 pm) – This flowing aspect ideally helps us to achieve more of an inner/outer balance. Our ego needs and desire for accomplishment are more readily met. Nurturing ourselves and others may also come easier now.

Mars in Taurus squares Saturn Rx in Aquarius ( 3:57 pm) – Hands down, this aspect is the big elephant in the room today! Among other things, it often forces us to slow down – or to at least go at things at a much more measured pace. Success can be had now but this is more likely only if we are willing to put in the hard work that taskmaster Saturn requires. If we are, we may find that we are able to build something of real stature or value now that is long-lasting. Too, trying to simply wing things or rest largely on our laurels will likely just send us to the back of the class now. On another level, this aspect may also make us more aware of how our fears may be holding us back. It may also alert us to the finite nature of our physical energy and how we may need to guard it.

“If people knew how hard I had to work to gain my mastery, it would not seem so wonderful at all.” – Michelangelo Buonarroti

On This Day in History: On August 7, 1782, George Washington creates the Purple Heart medal (original name Badge of Military Merit) as commander of the Continental Army.

Astrologically, that day, warrior Mars was conjunct the Sun in commanding Leo. Mars was also trining Jupiter and Saturn both conjunct in philosophical, freedom-loving Sagittarius. Mars trine Jupiter tends to greatly inspire or ignite our bravery and ideals, while Mars trine Saturn often rewards us for our past efforts.

The modern Purple Heart was first issued on February 22, 1932 – the bicentennial of George Washington’s birthday. General Douglas MacArthur, Army chief of staff at the time, received the first Purple Heart.

Born On This Day: Radio entertainer and writer Garrison Keillor. Perhaps best known for the public-radio show A Prairie Home Companion. Keillor, who was born in Anoka, Minnesota, turns 80 today.

“That’s the news from Lake Woebegon, where all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking, and all the children are above average.” –Garrison Keillor, signing off.

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Astrology August 6, 2022: Scorpio Moon Sextiles Pluto

Cosmic Weather:

On this sixth day of the week – and sixth day of the month – we have Waxing Luna, in penetrating Scorpio, sextile to Pluto Rx in Capricorn (7:24 am), Scorpio’s modern-day co-ruler of the sign (along with Mars).

This aspect tends to introduce more intense emotions and feelings. Things that have been tucked away deep inside of us are now surfacing and clamoring for the exit doors. Ideally, this exodus process can be very healing. It can also be a good time to attempt to locate what has been lost or misplaced as our inner detective is now hot on the trail.

Too, Luna will go void-of-course after this sextile and remain so until she enters adventurous Sagittarius (12:39 pm) where she will hang out and, no doubt, copiously opine for the rest of the weekend. Also, we may even see preachiness crescendo to new heights when the Sadge Moon squares off with mental Mercury in persnickety, snarky Virgo this evening (8:18 pm). Additionally, Moon-Mercury tends to put our thoughts and feelings at odds.

Astrology August 5, 2022: First Quarter Moon in Scorpio

Tags

Cosmic Weather:

On this jobs-reporting Friday in the U.S.  – and the very first Friday of August – we are greeted by a First Quarter Moon, as the celebrity Leo Sun squares off with angst-filled Luna in Scorpio (7:07 am). This phase of the Moon occurs when Luna reaches 50% of her illumination – or appears half full in the sky.

At this time of the lunar cycle, we may be feeling some unease inside ourselves and feel compelled to take some kind of corrective or re-orienting action to right the spaceship, so to speak, especially with respect to what was conceived at the Leo New Moon (i.e. our monthly vision for ourselves).

Luna’s increasing light makes it more possible for us to see now some of the kinks or vulnerable points in that original design that may need to be purged or expunged in order to make this whole thing fly by the time of the Full Moon in aviation Aquarius, on August 11th.

Too, the First Quarter Moon can also bring to light other issues, and hidden tensions, that may force us to pay more attention to what is happening, including possibly highlighting some inner conflicts that we may feel regarding our need for outward recognition from others for what we are generating or putting out there. For instance, we may question whether we are doing the right thing with some project, or maybe think about possibly changing our approach.

Additionally, today’s eliminating Scorpio Moon is an excellent time to do some decluttering of objects we no longer need.

“I felt that days, weeks, months, and years of my life were wasted by the removal of stuff. There were more important things I would rather have been doing. But I continued, and eventually, I felt lighter and freer than I had ever felt in the years of big houses with each room filled to the brim.” – Lisa J. Schultz

Astrology August 4, 2022: Mercury Enters Virgo

Tags

Cosmic Weather:

We may be more honed in on dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s, in the next few weeks, as Mercury, the planet of communication, intellect, memory, and travel enters precise, analytical Virgo today (2:58 am), one of two signs that it rules (the other is Gemini). This is one of the best placements for the Winged Messenger as it gives our mental faculties quickness and a critical edge.

Too, one thing I’ve discovered: when we do start paying closer attention to the myriad details of the things around us we often find that the world that we thought we so intimately knew is really, in many cases, vastly different than the one we have fabricated in our heads. It’s like the long paper trail never ends! 🙂

This also hints at the possible shadow side of Mercury in Virgo: that we become so consumed now by the little things that we fail to see the big (perplexing) picture. Still, though, Mercury in Virgo can be very useful in helping us to navigate and manage many of the practicalities of day-to-day living as it makes us focus on what’s right before us.

“Everything made by human hands looks terrible under magnification–crude, rough, and asymmetrical. But in nature every bit of life is lovely. And the more magnification we use, the more details are brought out, perfectly formed, like endless sets of boxes within boxes.” – Roman Vishniac

Mercury will remain in Virgo until August 25th but will re-enter Virgo late September due to a Mercury retrograde period. (More on that later.)

Waxing Luna also shifts into Scorpio today (7:47 am) motivating us to get to the bottom of things.

Astrology August 3, 2022: Moon Squares Venus, Trines Saturn

Tags

, , , ,

Cosmic Weather:

Luna continues in diplomatic Libra today. She also remains in her Waxing Crescent phase presently displaying 30% illumination. This phase is a transitional period that starts after the New Moon and lasts until the First Quarter. Astrologically, this is perceived to be an excellent time to be laser-focused on advancing the intentions that we set during last week’s New Moon in Leo.

Luna squares Venus in Cancer this afternoon (1:54 pm). This more social aspect poises us to want to be around people we like, doing things that we enjoy. On the shadow side, our feelings and desires could conflict a bit with our relationships, which could possibly distort our perceptions. One way to perhaps neutralize or turn this around may be to listen to what others are saying instead of imagining things in our heads. Or we could simply ask for some clarification about what is being said.

The Moon in Libra’s trine to Saturn in Aquarius (6:28 pm) tends to redirect our focus and may find us seeking out moments of quiet reflection or solitude. We tend to be less dependent on others for our feelings of well-being or validation now because we are more attuned to our inner reserves of strength and security. Accordingly, it may be a very good time to evaluate our relationships and our relationship needs.

Astrology August 2, 2022: Libra Moon/Venus Sextile Triple Conjunction

Tags

, , ,

Cosmic Weather:

There seems to be a general consensus among many of us that aiming to strike a balance, in all that we do, is key to having a healthy and contented life. The Persian poet Rumi once opined over a thousand years ago:

“Your hand opens and closes, opens and closes. If it were always a fist or always stretched open, you would be paralyzed.”

Astrologically, Libra – symbolized by the scales – depicts that balance, and very early this morning, Waxing Luna – often thought to be a barometer of our ever-shifting emotions and public sentiment – gently dovetailed into this seventh sign of the zodiac (12:06 am), where she will, no doubt, try to work her special brand of magic and diplomacy for all of us over the next couple of days, attempting to keep everything on a copacetic even keel.

No doubt, too, Luna’s also closely eyeing Mars, Uranus, the North Node – and US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi – all conjunct in the saddle, in unflinching Taurus the bull, headed over, this morning, to Taipei, Taiwan. Reportedly, they will all be graciously escorted into the country by a fighter jet! Keeping fingers crossed, though, that Libra’s ruler, social Venus in nurturing Cancer, which is harmoniously sextiling Mars, Uranus, and the North Node today, will ultimately help everyone to maybe channel their inner Emily Post and, accordingly, mind their p’s and q’s.

Born On This Day: American novelist and playwright James Baldwin in 1924 in Harlem, NY (d. 1987). Here’s a very thought-provoking passage from Baldwin’s book, The Fire Next Time:

“Life is tragic simply because the earth turns and the sun inexorably rises and sets, and one day, for each of us, the sun will go down for the last, last time. Perhaps the whole root of our trouble, the human trouble, is that we will sacrifice all the beauty of our lives, will imprison ourselves in totems, taboos, crosses, blood sacrifices, steeples, mosques, races, armies, flags, nations, in order to deny the fact of death, the only fact we have. It seems to me that one ought to rejoice in the fact of death–ought to decide, indeed, to earn one’s death by confronting with passion the conundrum of life. One is responsible for life: It is the small beacon in that terrifying darkness from which we come and to which we shall return.”

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Astrology August 1, 2022: Mars Conjuncts North Node and Uranus

Tags

, , , ,

Cosmic Weather:

This first day of August gets off to a rather rip-roaring start with the activator Mars conjunct both the destiny-pointing North Node (2:04 pm) and liberating, awakening Uranus (7:53 pm), the so-called rogue planet which can also be very volatile and unpredictable by design. This galvanizing meetup is occurring at 18 degrees of determined Taurus the bull, the sign which governs money, security, possessions, and values. Taurus also rules food and agriculture.

Perhaps one thing astrologically notable here, too, from a collective standpoint: the first grain shipment from Ukraine – since the Russian invasion – left the port city of Odessa today bound for Lebanon, aiming to ease the world food crisis. Was also personally thinking that even though this deal was reportedly brokered, a while back, by Turkey, it wasn’t until we actually had this triple conjunction in effect today that the first ship left the harbor. Of course, this latest positive development could also quickly change here – in the wrong direction – based on the past. But, at least it’s a start.

Too, when I first heard this hopeful news on the radio this morning while I was still in bed, the astrologer in me was right away thinking that one of the potential upsides to today’s “cosmic trio lineup” is that it truly does have enormous potential to shift things around for us, to help break up stalemates or stuck situations so we can free ourselves up (and hopefully our world) for something better and possibly more engaging. In other words, that astrology really does work! 🙂

Uranus is revolutionary/disruptive by nature. It represents, among other things, the changing of the old guard, the supplanting of the status quo, the adoption of new methods or procedures, as well as the expression of our individuality – or what it is that makes us unique or quirky. The North Node signifies our evolutionary future, the path of Spirit. Mars is operating now as an amped-up conduit to bring us into greater alignment with these realms.

Too, how we spend our time, money, and resources, what we choose to focus on, the decisions we make, and what we value are always crucial aspects that help to shape and determine the general contour and course of our daily lives, over the long term. That said, it’s also often very easy as astrologers to sometimes get so engrossed/dazzled/enamored by the various astrological influences of the moment, that we sort of forget the down-to-earth basics of Building A Peachy Keen Life 101.

Nevertheless, over the next few days, while this electrifying triple conjunction is still in play, it may behoove us to seriously think about injecting some fresh new elements into our lives, to change things up,  so as to endow them with more pizzazz, passion, and higher purpose. To wake us up from our slumber.

“When one realizes one is asleep, at that moment one is already half-awake.” P.D. Ouspensky

Born On This Day: American author Herman Melville in 1819 in New York City (d. 1891), creator of the classic novel Moby Dick. Here’s a pithy line from that masterpiece that is also rather fitting for this special day:

“It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation.”

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Astrology July 31, 2022: Mercury Opposes Saturn, Sun Trines Jupiter

Cosmic Weather:

Some woulda, coulda, shoulda thoughts may be mixed in with our early morning brew – although a further reading of the distilled tea leaves also suggests that it is probably a good time to just learn from our mistakes and move on – as well as to maybe stop being so critical of ourselves! Referencing here, of course, cerebral Mercury, in proud Leo, opposing judgmental Saturn in hippie-minded Aquarius (2:05 am).

Too, probably all we really need to do today is make it to happy hour when the empowering Leo Sun trines Santa Claus Jupiter in “no stopping us” Aries (6:36 pm)! Of course, whether or not Mr. Claus will actually be able to make it down our personal chimneys loaded up with lots of goodies for each of us will largely be dependent on whether or not we have been naughty or nice. Thankfully, too, unlike naysayer Mercury-Saturn, Sun-Jupiter is much more forgiving and charitable and usually more easily swayed by such things as a warm glass of milk and a plate full of cookies.

Sun trine Jupiter tends to be one of the more delightful aspects of life as its hopeful ray often sets the stage for more love, passion, and understanding to ripen and come forward; lady luck may also be less of a stranger now. Too, how many times have we heard that “timing is everything” or the idea of being in the right place, at the right time? Of course, discerning the right timing is also often at the very core of using astrology as a leveraging tool to practically guide us in our daily lives, in addition to using it as a vehicle for better understanding of ourselves and our world. That said – and assuming we have already done enough of the fancy prep work – this is likely an excellent time to launch adventurous new beginnings as our confidence, optimism, and vision are likely all cresting.

Astrology July 30, 2022: Leo Sun and a Waxing Moon in Virgo

Tags

, , , ,

Cosmic Weather:

On this Saturn-ruled Saturday, the last one in July, we are privy to a radical costume change of sorts, about midday, with waxing Luna wrapping up her glam stay in flamboyant Leo the Lioness and bound for the ‘reap what you sow’ wheat fields of more modest, discerning Virgo the Virgin (2:10 pm).

Overall, the Moon’s pivot to detail-oriented Virgo, in association with the creative Leo Sun, especially favors organizing, assessing, or evaluating those projects or activities that we – particularly our egos – may personally identify with, which also may incorporate our special unique crop of talents or gifts.

Included in the mix here, we may also want to allocate some time or resources now to re-arranging or decluttering our immediate surroundings so as to introduce or establish a more palpable sense of energetic flow around us so we can, ideally, function more optimally. Too, fresh off the heels of the New Moon in Leo, we do want to be birthing something new now, hopefully seeing it get its cool angel wings at the time of the Full Moon in Aquarius on August 13th.

Luna will remain in efficient Virgo until early Tuesday morning.

Numerologically, today, 7-30-2022, is both a “3” and “7” day. The number three suggests a special knack or finesse for socializing or getting along with others, which can ultimately help to make us more influential or persuasive; this number is also associated with creative expression. Meanwhile, the number seven appeals to our more intuitive or mystical side. Also, “30” is often viewed, numerologically, as a period of time when we “come into our own .” For instance, Jesus was about 30 years of age when he started his ministry.

Cosmic Weather:

“The purpose of life is washing the daily dust of life off our souls.” – Pablo Picasso

On this second Sunday of the seventh month, we find the nurturing, self-protective Cancer Sun in sextile formation with liberating agent Uranus in Taurus (4:39 am), an aspect that may prime us for wanting to temporarily abscond from our cozy, little nests in order to partake or participate in refreshingly different activities or outlets. Sun-Uranus suggests a mild pop of awakening energy. Ideally, also a positive time for integrating the past with the present, with an eye toward the future.

Also, very supportive of this influence is waxing Luna’s ingress into adventurous Sagittarius (4:34  am), especially her trine to optimistic, philosophical Jupiter in pioneering Aries (6:04 pm), an aspect which, among other things, can serve to power a spirit of inclusion, including a desire to embrace other cultures, nationalities.
