“More smiling, less worrying. More compassion, less judgment. More blessed, less stressed. More love, less hate.” – Roy T. Bennett

Neptune enters Aries (7:59 am)

First off, Neptune, the coldest planet in the Solar System (with an average temperature of minus 392 F), will only be making a test-run of Aries now to show us a quick, general layout of the land. In late October, it will re-enter Pisces, for three months, before moving back into the sign of the ram, late January of 2026, where it will continue to chill until early 2039.

Neptune symbolizes, among other things, idealism, compassion, spirituality, and dreams. It’s also linked to creativity and imagination. On the flip side, it rules delusion, deceit, and addiction.

Aries, meanwhile – the first sign of the zodiac – is tied with self-identity, assertiveness, fresh starts, and competitiveness. It’s also associated with the defense world i.e. the military-industrial complex (a term reportedly first coined by Malcolm Moos, a speechwriter for US President Dwight D. Eisenhower who used the phrase in his farewell address in January of 1961).

Briefly, it could be that Neptune’s ingress into action-oriented Aries might, among other things, inspire us to lean more into our faith, idealism, or creativity, in carving out new beginnings for ourselves. At the same time – on the shadow side – we may need to be more cognizant of being too immersed in “flights of fancy” or believing or putting forth narratives about ourselves that are untrue or self-sabotaging.

“To thine own self be true.” – William Shakespeare

*All times EDT.

On This Day in History: On March 30, 1867, the United States buys Alaska from Russia for $7,200,000 (109 million in 2018 dollars), roughly 2 cents an acre. The acquisition – the brainchild of US Secretary of State William Seward – was referred to as “Seward’s Folly” as some opponents felt that the purchase was “useless land.” Kind of like how the Louisiana Purchase was originally viewed by those who were opposed to it.

Astrologically, the empowering Sun at the time was applying (three degrees) to an exact conjunction with visionary Neptune in pioneering Aries.  The planetary ruler of Aries – energizer Mars – was also deposited in security-minded Cancer (where it is today). Cancer rules, among other things, land and real estate, as well as home and family. Additionally, money maven Venus and expansive Jupiter, the two benefic planets, were in a one-degree conjunction in futuristic Aquarius, an alignment that is often deemed very fortuitous.

“Seward’s Folly? Alaska’s riches have proven its wisdom.” – Mark Twain

“The avoidance of taxes is the only intellectual pursuit that still carries any reward.” – John Maynard

Not sure if even billionaire Oprah Winfrey will ever be able to give away any more free cars to her fans, in wake of President Trump’s oval office announcement, late yesterday, that all automobiles (and auto parts) not made in the U.S. will soon be charged 25% tariffs.

Fortunately, though, there’s also some good news on the horizon now: The generous, benevolent Universe has seemingly decided to act promptly and swiftly to soften the blow for the masses here, by kindly awarding free halos today, duty-free, to all interested parties – while supplies last. 🙂

Of course, once we have the halos in hand, hopefully the accompanying angel wings will soon follow, so troubling our pretty heads about any future transportation needs will likely be but a vestige of the past – unless we maybe fall from grace or something. Which could very well happen!

(Think all this daily, incessant tariff talk is driving a lot of us batty!)

Astrologically speaking, today does feel a bit like an ephemeral, out-of-body experience. The Waning Crescent Moon – which is now 27.48 days old since the last New Moon – is sequestered in dissolving, transcending Pisces, emitting only 5% illumination as seen from earth (an excellent time to see the features of the Moon’s surface with a telescope or binoculars).

With Luna in Pisces – the last sign of the zodiac – we are usually naturally primed for releasing or letting go what is no longer serving us. Especially now, since we also have to hurry up and get ready for the New Moon Eclipse, in start-me-up Aries, on the 29th.

Luna in Pisces is excellent for self-reflection, meditation, performing random acts of kindness. A great time to maybe disconnect from technology, for a while, to re-order our disheveled worlds.

Meanwhile, lovable Venus Rx exits Aries and also shifts into Pisces this morning (4:41 am), conjuncting imaginative Neptune, shortly thereafter (9:13 am). This is often a very dreamy, highly creative, sensitizing influence that is sometimes linked to the arrival of a magical, fairy tale romance. Too, we had this same aspect on February 1st so it could be that we are sifting through or re-evaluating now whatever may have started then to determine whether or not we did, indeed, kiss a real prince – or just another frog.

Sometimes, too, we have to be extra careful with Venus-Neptune influences as often we are looking through the proverbial rose-colored glasses, at this time – just seeing what we want to see and pitching the rest. Although occasionally this strategy does work (I met both of my husbands under Venus-Neptune aspects).

“Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.” – Aldous Huxley

Attention all self-styled truth seekers, onion peelers, news and information junkies, closeted Sherlock Holmes’ wannabees: the ever-bewildering Universe, undoubtedly, has all your collective backs today!

The highly distinguished factfinder/award-winning reporter Mercury retrograde, presently deposited in let me always be first on the scene Aries, has been dutifully dispatched to the drab digs of dwarf planet Pluto, in oddball Aquarius, where the temperature averages -387F (-232C).

Needless to say, this is exactly where Pluto, the “chilling,” enigmatic spy chief – who also doubles in its spare time as the symbolic ruler of our cryptic subconscious – characteristically likes the thermostat set, as it’s the absolute perfect environment to conduct its many various classified surveillance operations as no one with any measure of common sense would care to hang out there for very long.

Mercury-Pluto aspects typically fuel our investigative impulses/instincts and, before long, we can quickly become like the proverbial dog with a bone and just can’t quit – often resulting in, among other things, untruths or hidden motives being ferreted out, ancient or closely guarded secrets, solved or revealed.

Generally, too, it can be a great time to go deeper with a subject, especially regarding something we love or are otherwise fascinated by.

On another level, with Mercury governing speech and communication and Pluto’s more intense ray often synonymous with going to extremes or showcasing shock-jock type drama, it may become easier for our attention to become quickly captivated or glued to something we hear or read now, that we maybe can’t quite believe or are taken aback by. We may also personally be seeking more control (or manipulation) over others, at this time, or at least desiring to be seen or regarded as a person of persuasion.

“Character may also be called the most effective means of persuasion.” – Aristotle

This is actually Mercury’s second recent “sextile” rendezvous with Pluto, due to its retrograde phase. The first visit was on March 5th and the last one will be on April 20th. It could be that, today, we are taking a second look at what we may have unearthed, learned, or decided, during the first go-round.

Astrology March 24, 2025: Sun Conjuncts Mercury Retrograde

Cosmic Weather:

“There are very few human beings who receive the truth, complete and staggering, by instant illumination. Most of them acquire it fragment by fragment, on a small scale, by successive developments, cellularly, like a laborious mosaic.” – Anais Nin

Sun Conjuncts Mercury Rx in enterprising Aries (3:48 pm) – Thinker Mercury is now officially at the mid-point of its “mulling over,” backstepping retrograde phase. Which means that the empowering Sun, once again, has seemingly – and most graciously, indeed – opted to intervene and restore, at least temporarily today, some semblance of full cognitive power/wattage/clarity to the delicate psyche of the Winged Messenger/Commerce Secretary so that it no longer has to fumble through, or re-evaluate or reconsider its most recent spate of head-scratching or knee-jerking ideas, proposals, strategies, etc., presumably guided only by a lowly flashlight with waning batteries.

Of course, the big dream here, is that this perceived increased dosage of scintillating clarity or illumination, that the Sun is generously bestowing upon Mercury now, will also copiously trickle down to each one of us so that we may ideally be able to arrive at a better understanding or grasp of what seismic or even pint-sized moves we may want to make once Mercury emerges victorious and refreshed from its retro phase on April 7th (or its shadow on April 14th).

Today’s inferior conjunction of the Sun and Mercury is also thought to be a more beneficial period for doing research or perhaps for partaking in riveting conversations or discussions, with our words potentially packing more of a punch at this time.

The 4th quarter Moon also shifts into progressive, inventive Aquarius from business-minded Capricorn, later this morning (11:25 am).

Cosmic Weather:

Sun in Aries sextiles Pluto in Aquarius (3:32 pm EDT) – Entices us to go below the surface of things in an attempt to identify root causes. In the process, we may find ourselves journeying down a new path that feels fairly compelling or transforming. Shedding, purging, or recycling activities may advance to the forefront now as we ardently seek out some measure of personal renewal.

Astrology August 21, 2024: Leo Sun Quincunx Neptune in Pisces

Cosmic Weather:

“Follow effective action with quiet reflection. From the quiet reflection will come even more effective action.” – Peter Drucker

The confident, outgoing Leo Sun’s quincunx to dissolving Neptune in Pisces (5:29 pm) seems to suggest that we may fare better now by adopting more of an indirect or possibly even delayed approach/response to matters versus laying everything out in the open for all to see. This may be especially the case in instances in which we may already be harboring some inner doubt or ambivalence with respect to how to handle or present an issue. Neptune’s activated ray is also sometimes associated with clouding or disguising issues, which may wisely give us even more reason to perhaps pause or suspend things/operations until we know more of what we are dealing with.

Too, Luna is in her Waning Gibbous phase in Pisces and will be conjunct Neptune, just minutes after this quincunx occurs (5:54 pm); Moon-Neptune is typically thought to be a period best utilized for such things as quiet reflection or rest and relaxation; additionally, it can be a time when we feel more intuitive as well as creative and compassionate.

That said, Luna’s entrance into “start-me-up” Aries (7:02 pm) may find us ready, willing, and able to channel our inner trailblazer/pioneer.

Astrology August 18, 2024: Mercury Rx Squares Uranus, Conjuncts Sun

Tags

Cosmic Weather:

If you want to understand something, take it apart and reassemble it. This doesn’t just apply to objects.” – James Pierce

With the illuminating rays of the creative Leo Sun conjoined with Mercury retrograde (9:58 pm), we may be privy to a greater measure of mental clarity at this time, which could result in some kind of turning point, with respect to our thinking or understanding, especially in relation to a matter that is already under our noble, heady review. Too, this matter may particularly pertain to how we choose to express ourselves or our talents (Leo).

Additionally, Mercury Rx is squaring radical Uranus in Taurus (exact at 5:47 am), seemingly giving us carte blanche to espouse, or at least evaluate, more experimental processes or methodologies. Similarly, this aspect may conveniently open the door for us to temporarily channel our ‘inner contrarian.’

It also may be one of those days when we may hear or see something “out of left field” that we may not have been expecting.

(In my own case, I literally had a large pine tree come down in the open field to the left of my house overnight, supplying me with yet one more thing to joyously opine about on this cheery Sunday morning!) 🙂

Today’s Sun-Mercury configuration also denotes the midway cycle in Mercury’s apparent backward dance in the heavens, which began on August 4 and concludes on August 28.

*All times EDT

On This Day in History: On August 18, 1920, the 19th Amendment was ratified in the US giving women the right to vote.

Astrologically, that day, feminine-ruling Venus, at 8 degrees of harvesting Virgo, was exactly sextile to transformational Pluto at 8 degrees of Cancer. Cancer has traditionally been associated with, among other things, patriotism and love of country.  Venus was also applying to a conjunction with Saturn, which suggests an addition of duties or responsibilities.

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Astrology January 4, 2024: Mars Enters Capricorn

Cosmic Weather:

““When you have exhausted all possibilities, remember this – you haven’t.” – Inventor, Thomas Edison

The Red Planet Mars, symbolizing our motivation and actions, moves into persevering Capricorn today (9:58 am) where it will presumably buckle down until February 13th. Mars is in its exaltation in Saturn-ruled Capricorn suggesting that we are potentially more behaviorally equipped now, during this period, to temper our impulses in a more serious and determined manner in our ongoing quest to claim our (inevitable) sweet perch atop the mountain in 2024. 🙂

Mars in Capricorn is typically regarded as being highly ambitious, status-conscious, and results-driven, perennially keeping a steely eye on the big prize.

Too, Mars in Capricorn ideally helps us to manage our resources – including our valuable time – more effectively and strategically. Always a good thing.

“A man who dares to waste one hour of time has not discovered the value of life.” –Charles Darwin

Some famous people with Mars in Capricorn include Albert Einstein, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, and Shakira.

*All times EST

Born On This Day: English physicist, mathematician and astronomer Isaac Newton (Gravity, Laws of Motion) in 1643 in Woolsthorpe-by-Colsterworth, England (d. 1727).

“Gravity explains the motions of the planets, but it cannot explain who sets the planets in motion.” – Isaac Newton

On This Day in History: On January 4, 1865, the New York Stock Exchange opens for business in its first permanent headquarters on Broad St, near Wall Street, in NYC. The Exchange had formally existed since 1792 but had reportedly operated out of a series of packed Wall Street coffee-houses and rented offices. (gilderlehrman.org)

Astrologically, that day, Venus – which governs money as well as relationships – was in futuristic Aquarius and applying to an exact flowing trine to electrifying Uranus in Gemini, the astrological sign which rules our immediate locale or surroundings. Positive Venus-Uranus aspects are generally regarded as being more favorable for finance-related matters. Venus also governs beauty or aesthetics and connected with Uranus there may be a desire to modernize or update our environment in novel ways.

Too, this planetary duo is sometimes linked with sudden attractions. For instance, Paul McCartney and John Lennon reportedly met each other for the very first time when Venus and Uranus were conjunct in entertainment Leo. Their financial future together also appeared to work out pretty well! 🙂

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Cosmic Weather:

“We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity, and its first chapter is New Year’s Day.” – Edith Lovejoy Pierce

Happy New Year!

Waning Luna continues in task-oriented Virgo all day. Perhaps this will serve to duly inspire us to double down on moving forward with those (ball and chain) NYE resolutions. 🙂 The Virgo Moon is excellent for any activity that requires attention to details.

Also, this morning, lovable Venus, in footloose and fancy-free Sagittarius, forms an exact square to Saturn in Pisces (8:25 am). Since Saturn and its exhaustive array of rings extending millions of miles out from the planet signifies restrictions or boundary setting, it could be that we are understandably feeling a little (or a lot!) walled in at the moment. Venus governs our relationships, finances, and values and when it is aligned with responsibility-minded Saturn, we are perceived to be more inclined to feel the weightiness of it all and what to do about it.

(Thought it was also interesting how Queen Margrethe ll of Denmark announced yesterday, during her New Years speech, that she plans to abdicate after 52 years and hand over the throne to her son, Crown Prince Frederik – reportedly catching everyone by surprise. Too, when I first heard the news, I immediately thought of this pending Venus-Saturn aspect today as it is sometimes correlated with the ending of ties or relationships, especially those that are viewed or regarded as more dutiful in nature.)

We also close out this first day of the new year, with messenger Mercury stationing direct in Sagittarius (10:07 pm) after a retrograde period that commenced on December 13th. In the coming days, our decision-making process ideally becomes clearer as Mercury begins to pick up speed.

Astrology December 31, 2023: Moon Enters Self-improvement Virgo

Tags

Cosmic Weather:

“No matter who you are, no matter what you did, no matter where you’ve come from, you can always change, become a better version of yourself.” – Madonna

On this very last day of 2023, perhaps it is fitting that Waning Luna is shifting into perfecting Virgo (6:54 am), as many of us go about crafting/rolling out our well-meaning list of NYE intentions/resolutions for next year now, with self-improvement strategies likely nearing the top of that list.

(In fact, according to a recent October survey by Forbes, the most commonly selected new year’s resolution for 2024 among respondents was fitness. Also, 62% of respondents stated that they felt pressured to set a new year’s resolution.)

With the daily Moon transiting Virgo, we tend to focus on optimizing our resources, troubleshooting, tidying up, and being of service. Virgo can also be more health conscious.

Early this afternoon, Luna opposes minimalist, restrictive Saturn in Pisces (1:24 pm). While this influence is thought to impart a more exacting, less social vibe, it may be ideal for planning or decluttering as well as reflection.

Luna’s trine to expansive, jovial Jupiter in Taurus (6:10 pm) could be described as almost a polar opposite to the Moon-Saturn energy as it is perceived to be both upbeat and inclusive. The champagne glass is unequivocally half-full at this time!

“I believe when life gives you lemons, you should make lemonade…and try to find someone whose life has given them vodka and have a party.” – Ron White

*All times EST

On This Day in History: US President Harry Truman signs Presidential Proclamation 2714, which officially declared the cessation of all hostilities in WWII.

Even though the actual combat of the war ended May 8, 1945, in Europe and September 2, 1945, in the Pacific, the state of war was not lifted off of Japan and Germany in order to give a reason for the necessity of occupation troops in these countries. Once the War Crime Trials were over, the hostilities were seen as over.

The signing of Presidential Proclamation 2714 is also the legal basis for the end of World War II. As a result, any person who served between December 7,1941 and December 31, 1946, is considered a World War II veteran. (Wikipedia)

Among the astrological aspects on 12/31/46: Mars, the planet of war, was just separating from an exact conjunction to the authoritative Sun in Capricorn, the sign of government. Mars was also exactly square to dissolving Neptune in Libra, the sign of peace and diplomacy. Mars square Neptune sometimes suggests an avoidance of direct confrontation, often due to weariness or tiredness. It may also signal passive-aggressive or deceptive/delusional behavior. Thought it was very interesting, though, that in this case, it was correlated with the formal recognition of the cessation of hostilities.  Mars is also thought to be exalted in Capricorn because its actions when in that sign are perceived to be more cautious, disciplined, and strategic.
