COSMIC WEATHER:

“In his holy flirtation with the world, God occasionally drops a handkerchief. These handkerchiefs are called saints.” Frederick Buechner

With popes and beatification in the news, and would-be kings, it could be that Mars is aligned with Jupiter above! Mars and Jupiter are, indeed, conjunct in pioneering Aries now, and have been so for the last few days. This aspect is finally exact to the dot today (12:26 am EDT).

Jupiter, the ruler of Sagittarius (sign of religion and philosophy) and co-ruler of spiritual Pisces (ruler of saints), presides over affairs of royalty and and also clergyman, including religious figures such as the pope. Of course, we had the royal wedding on Friday of Kate Middleton and Prince William, and today, Pope Benedict XVI beatified Pope John Paul the II, bringing the late pontiff one step closer to sainthood. More than a million people descended on St. Peter’s Square and surrounding areas to partake in the event. Kate and Williams’s wedding was viewed by 2.6 billion people.

Expansive, grandiose Jupiter, associated with pomp and circumstance, generally wants everything done on a large, lavish scale. Part of his “perennially thinking big” mindset and orientation. Jupiter denotes the philosophy of optimism. “If you can believe it, you can achieve it bro! Don’t fret your poor self with worry over the pending charge account statement. You only go around once! You gotta’ live it up!” 🙂

With energizer Mars conjoined with jolly Jupiter, it is much easier for us now to get carried away with our dreams and enthusiasm, especially in “unstoppable” Aries, the sign of “act first, think later.” So, we may want to make sure that we are adding in at least some measure of common sense with our actions, so we don’t disappoint later, or bite off more than we can chew, in our glorious quest to get ahead and our name on the marquis.

With that said, this is a fantastic time for self-promotion and for selling ourselves. Too, we can even inject some Jupiterian humor into the situation, like President Obama did last night at the White House Correspondents Dinner in Washington DC.

I was checking, last night, and it appears that we have only had this Mars-Jupiter conjunction in Aries two or three times in the past 100 years or so, although these two planets meet up every couple years by conjunction. So today’s exact event is very rare. Too, we also have the Moon, Mercury, Venus and Uranus in Aries, the official sign of new beginnings. We will also not have this many planets in Aries again for many years, at least 12+ years or more. Also, the Aries Moon is simultaneously conjunct both Jupiter (10:51 am EDT) and Mars (11:21 am EDT) adding even more icing on our personality cakes.

What this all means, to me, is we have a golden, and again, very rare opportunity to re-design and re-invent ourselves now in unprecedented ways. Aries is about self-discovery, and also turning over a new leaf. If we have maybe been feeling down in the dumps, we need to somehow find a way to re-kindle our passions again today, and attempt to make our lives spectacular and magnificent, on the grand, lavish scale of Mars-Jupiter. To have the world around us take notice of us for our crowing achievements and singular contributions for the good of humanity. Even if we may initially only be a “big fish in a small pond.” At least, it’s a beginning! And, we’ll also do Mars-Jupiter proud! May the “Mars-Jupiter force,” be with you today!

“If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself, then make a change.” Michael Jackson

COSMIC WEATHER:

A rare convergence of potent, transforming energies engulfs us now. “Visionary” Jupiter exactly conjoins Uranus, the planet of “Sudden Breakthrough Awareness.” This conjunction is occurring in Compassionate Pisces, the last sign of the zodiac, associated with Idealism and wanting to forge a “link with the Divine.”

(Interesting, too, with this more potentially “spiritually-illuminating” aspect, we have Pope Benedict in the UK now, attempting to perhaps “revitalize and inject new interest” (Uranus) in the Church’s teachings there. Fascinatingly, the Pope also has this very same “Jupiter-Uranus conjunction” falling exactly on his “Mental” Mercury in Pisces now, in his personal horoscope, so potentially, it’s a very “consciousness-raising” time for him, as well.  A period when he is much more inclined to gravitate towards accepting and implementing “new ideas, new approaches,” especially in matters pertaining to his faith (Pisces).  He may also be articulating his beliefs and views in far different ways than he has ever done in the past. Uranus often makes us “break with the past” and even take “radical stands” in wake of “an epiphany of new understanding.” That is how Uranus works.  It delivers “sudden” new insights. This “Jupiter-Uranus conjunction to his Mercury” is also occurring in the Pope’s first house of “new beginnings” having a direct impact on his personality and outlook on life.”)

Simultaneously, with this “enlightening” Jupiter-Uranus aspect, we have “Activator” Mars in “Regenerating, Healing” Scorpio throwing a Spellbinding Sextile to Scorpio’s Mysterious co-ruler, Pluto, which represents all that is “hidden from view.”  Mars is symbolically engaging Pluto to “show its hand.” Reveal the cards that its playing. That may also be the case with us now: We may want to “come clean,” so to speak. Spill our contents. Empty or purge ourselves of “emotional baggage” that we have been carrying around, for far too long, that has been weighing us down and making us immobile.  It’s a perfect time to compassionately “engage the person we see before us in the mirror” and ask him or her, “Are you ready to make a change? Are you ready to put down those bags and walk away and begin a new life?” Surrendering the past is never easy, but it’s also important to note that “letting go” is a “natural process that affords us the chance for “new experiences,” “new growth” in the future.

Also, the Moon’s entrance today into “Futuristic Aquarius” (3:35 am EDT) also serves as an ally here to help us “close the door on the past” and “open up a new door” to hopefully a happier, “freer” way of being because we have released what we no longer need. We now have more room for “new wine” in our vessels.

Personally, I am working in my “neglected” yard today. Raking up the dead (Scorpio) leaves. Picking up acorns. Getting the lawn ready to be “aerated” and “seeded with new life” tomorrow. A very “Mars-Pluto” transformational activity.

In the News: The mother of the late Michael Jackson, Katherine Jackson, reportedly sued AEG Live on Wednesday, the entertainment company that was behind the “comeback concert series” Michael was planning at the time of his death. According to reports, the lawsuit claims, among other things, that AEG Live “didn’t provide the proper medical care” for her son.

Mrs. Jackson filed the suit just as “Warrior” Mars entered the Intense, Probing sign of Scorpio, which governs death and estate matters. “Aggressor”  Mars was also forming a powerful conjunction to “Veiled” Neptune in Scorpio, in Michael’s personal horoscope. Additionally, Mars was sextiling Michael’s natal Pluto in Virgo, the sign that rules health. Mars-Pluto is a pivotal “investigative” aspect, also a major “healing influence,” which can shed “transformational light” on things. Mars-Pluto can also simply symbolize “new” or “intensified interest” (Mars) in matters pertaining “to death” (Pluto).

Too, with “Mars-Neptune,” there can be a “lifting of the veil,” a “piercing (Mars) through the illusion (Neptune),” “a levied attack (Mars) against confusion (Neptune).” And, of course, Mrs. Jackson, is also, no doubt, continuing to want resolution and healing for herself and her family from the destabilizing “Neptunian agony” of Michael’s death under “unclear circumstances.” The family has been through so much sorrow here. Also, she is certainly seeking “justice” for Michael, with her lawsuit. So we see the “Mars-Neptune” conjunction in Michael’s chart, this week, in death-ruling Scorpio, has served to aggressively (Mars) re-open the matter of the “strange situational elements” (Neptune) surrounding his death (Scorpio).  (Neptune also rules drugs.)

Michael died under the transiting “Jupiter and Neptune” conjunction in Aquarius, which, on the shadow side, can create an abundance (Jupiter) of confusion, illusion, and deception. This is because Jupiter “magnifies” everything it touches and conjoined with “subterfuge” Neptune, it can create situations that are hard to navigate or “see clearly through,” as Neptune ‘s ray “fogs everything up.”

“All glory comes from daring to begin.”  Eugene F. Ware

The New Moon in pioneering Aries (8:29 am EDT) propels us into action. We go forth into the world with a spirit of confidence and discovery. It’s an inspiring period of rebirth, a time for embracing bold new challenges. The Moon’s sextile to Neptune and Chiron triumphantly adds to the feeling of hope and majestic vision for the future and courageously goads us on to bury old hurts and wounds and free ourselves up from self doubt.

If we don’t like where we are now and what we have become, this is a perfect day to start all over again.

“There will come a time when you believe everything is finished.  That will be the beginning.” Louis L’ Amour.

In the News: On Twitter Tuesday, there was a tweet from @BreakingNews quoting German Police as saying that the home that Pope Benedict (an Aries) was born in had been vandalized and that the break-in was possibly related to the child sex abuse scandal. In the Pope’s horoscope now, he has transiting Saturn exactly square his natal Mars in Gemini in the fourth house.   The fourth house governs the home, and Mars rules vandalism.  Saturn also symbolizes the past (a former residence) and can rule loss.  Of course, this reported incidence of vandalism is low on the totem pole of importance, compared to all the other chaos and agony in the Pope’s life now, but still it does, I’m sure, touch him in some way, as we all have clinging memories of our roots, particularly our birth place.

The Vatican also is drawing more fire this week in wake of a Cardinal’s claim that the pedophilia was linked to homosexuality.  Again, the Saturn-Mars aspect is notable here as Mars also rules sex.  Saturn additionally rules issues, problems, and represents a more narrow-minded or limited viewpoint.  By the way, the Pope’s birthday is Friday.  He’ll turn 83. We wish him the very best.  A lot on his plate.

Peace and love, everyone.  Enjoy your Wednesday!

Astrology: Transiting Pluto’s “Appearance” In The News

“I believe in equality for everyone, except reporters and photographers.” Mahatma Gandi

As an astrologer, I have a passion for “mundane astrology.”  That’s the branch of astrology that deals with world events or world affairs.  Whenever something grabs my attention in the news, I immediately check out the stars to see if there may be a “heavenly connection.”  I was also a radio news reporter, at one time, so I guess the news is still in my blood. Too, with the way I see things, I do not believe we’re really getting the “full picture” unless we also look at the meaning and symbolism of the heavens in conjunction with what’s happening around us.  It’s part of the maxim I subscribe to: “As above, so below.”

With that said, It was some kind of week on the astrological front with the Sun and Pluto dramatically duking it out (“square” to each other in the sky).  Mundane astrologers were poised to expect “big things” to happen this week (because of this aspect) and we were not disappointed.  Everyone who paid any attention to the major news stories saw the more “collective ramifications” of the Sun-Pluto meet-up. Pluto pretty much dominated the U.S. headlines. Pluto governs, among other things: debt, credit, insurance, atomic energy, breakthrough discoveries. It also represents the urge for power as well as power struggles, changes in power, sexual issues, obsessions.

When Pluto’s ray is activated we usually see explosive issues erupting that have been simmering under the surface for a while. Pluto, as Lord of the Underworld, rules what is hidden, including hidden forces such as the Mafia and terrorists. It also symbolically or literally denotes the “death-rebirth process.” Pluto characteristically delineates crises that require immediate responses. It shows us what has broken down and what needs to be repaired, overhauled, or pitched. It governs events of more of an extreme nature that have the possibility to change and transform our lives.  Pluto also rules the masses or the collective itself.

(Also, to briefly decode into English the astrology: 1) A “square aspect” is a stressful alignment that denotes inner tension or conflict that ends up forcing action to alleviate the situation. 2) The Sun, by transit, “illuminates” or “brings out into the open” the issues that are ruled by the planet or heavenly body that the Sun is conjoined with, which in this case, was Pluto. 3)Sun square Pluto is a short-term influence that lasts for a few days, but it can powerfully trigger the impact of longer-term transits, which it did this week, most notably the long-term Saturn square Pluto transit.)

So, let’s revisit some of the more notable “Sun-Pluto news stories” of this past week. In many of the cases, too, we’ll see that action was taken (the square activating energy) to deal with or solve a long-standing problematic (Pluto) situation.  Keep in mind, too, that Pluto governs “reforms.” Also, importantly, I am not saying that “Sun-Pluto” caused anything to happen, I am simply drawing correlations, connecting the cosmic dots:

– U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates announced new rules Thursday which make it harder to expel gay service members. That tied in with the Sun-Pluto aspect in a few different ways: The Sun was squaring Pluto from the pioneering sign of Aries, the first sign of the zodiac, where it deftly could have theoretically primed us, on a psychological level, for new beginnings. Aries also rules the military, so you thereby had the potential for more receptivity within the military for accepting the new protocol (the new rules). Pluto, as stated earlier, also rules sexual issues, especially hidden sexual issues. And, Pluto deals with rebirth or transformation.  Pluto is presently in the sign of Capricorn, which rules government, so what we ended up having here was a growing awareness within the government that more needed to be done, changes needed to be implemented, about the military’s “hush-hush” (hidden Pluto) sexual orientation policy.

– The Obama administration announced major plans Friday to lower mortgage debt for troubled borrowers.  Of course, this was put forth due to the ongoing foreclosure crisis as well as the growing ranks of people underwater with their mortgages due to the real estate slump. (Pluto rules foreclosures and mortgages.)

– Significant changes were also approved Thursday by Congress that will overhaul the student loan program. The student loan “reform package” was part of the package of fixes to the healthcare bill.  (Pluto rules all loans including student loans.)

– The historic health reform bill passed and was signed into law.  (Pluto rules insurance.)

– A Greek Debt deal was finally reached in Brussels on Thursday after months of impasse.

– President Obama and Russian President Medvedev finalized a new arms control treaty on Friday to further reduce the nuclear arsenals in each country. (Pluto rules nuclear weapons.)   This matter had been in the works for months before finally being agreed upon this week.  What also theoretically helped out here astrologically, with this particular issue, was the exact sextile (an opportunity aspect) from Mars to Saturn this week.  Mars rules matters of war and defense, while Saturn rules restrictions and limitations.  So with these two planets in alignment there was the potential for more of a mutual receptivity to reduce (Saturn) the nuclear arsenals (Mars and Pluto).  Also perhaps pivotal here, Saturn was in Libra, a sign that rules diplomacy and it was harmonious to Mars in Leo, with Leo ruling world leaders.

– Russian banned Hitler’s “Mein Kampf” as extremist on Friday in an effort to curb the growing appeal of far-right politics.  (Pluto rules fascism, dictators and extremism in any form.)

– President Obama asked on Wednesday that Cuba’s leader free “all political prisoners” characterizing conditions there as “deeply disturbing.” (Again an action aimed at a dictatorial, “Pluto-ruled” power.)

– More than 100 people with possible ties to Al-Qaeda were arrested in Saudia Arabia Wednesday for allegedly planning attacks on oil and security installations in the country.  Also that same day, Osama bin Laden threatened retaliation if the 9/11 suspects are put to death. (Pluto rules terrorism, secret societies.)

– Go Daddy, the world’s largest domain name registration company, announced Wednesday it was going to stop registering Websites in China after the Chinese government required customers to provide photographs and other identifying information before registering.  (Another example of Pluto as it pertains to power and control issues, and the matter of the control issue, coming to a head.)

– Pope Benedict was accused of failing to act in reference to the sexual abuse of 200 deaf boys in the 1990s by a priest in the U.S. (Pluto rules sexual issues, including hidden sexual abuse and pedophilia.)

– Scientists identified the Denisovin hominin, a previously unknown type of human, through DNA analysis of a finger found in a cave in Siberia Russia. (Pluto rules caves and hidden places.  It also rules DNA testing.)

In closing, for those who want to jot it down on their calendars, the Sun will meet up with Pluto again (by opposition aspect) late June 2010 and then (by square again) late September 2010.   Of course, other planets will be aspecting Pluto as well, this year, generating similar affects. We’ll keep you posted.
