Cosmic Weather:
“Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passion, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.” John Adams
The North Node (symbolizing the future) moves into Gemini today and the South Node (representing the past) moves into opposing Sagittarius, signs they will occupy for the next 18 months. (The last time we had this same setup was from October of 2001 to April of 2003.)
In general, during this ingress, we are learning to be more curious, to do more questioning to learn how others think, and to examine facts more closely before rendering our decisions. Simultaneously, we are seeking to move away from wholesale rejection of others’ ideas or belief systems simply because they are in conflict with our own. We are also wanting to back up or reinforce our faith now with facts.

On This Day in History: John Scopes was arrested by Tennesse authorities on May 5, 1925, for teaching evolution in his high school science class. They charged him with having violated a newly enacted law (The Butler Act) that criminalized the teaching of human evolution in the state’s public schools. The famous “Scopes Trial” (also known as the “Scopes Monkey Trial”) pitted advocates of creationism against those who believed in evolution.
(Astrologically, when Scopes was arrested on May 5, information-minded Mercury, in trail-blazing Aries, was exactly square to philosophical Jupiter in traditionally-minded Capricorn. With Mercury-Jupiter aspects we generally aim to broaden our understanding or widen our perspectives and there is also often marked enthusiasm for sharing what it is that we have learned or studied. Jupiter, the planet which symbolizes the search for higher meaning, also formally governs both teaching and religion. On the shadow side, especially with the square, there can be arrogance, narrow-mindedness, self-righteousness, as well as a tendency towards proselytizing others towards our own point of view.)
“If today you can take a thing like evolution and make it a crime to teach it in the public school, tomorrow you can make it a crime to teach it in the private schools, and the next year you can make it a crime to teach it to the hustings or in the church. At the next session, you may ban books and the newspapers.” – Clarence Darrow (the famed trial lawyer who represented John Scopes at his trial.)
Happy Cinco de Mayo! Hope it’s a good one! Be safe and well.
