“I have always believed, and I still believe, that whatever good or bad fortune may come our way we can always give it meaning and transform it into something of value.” – Herman Hesse, Siddhartha

Venus in Aquarius sextile Jupiter in Aries (4:08 am) – This more pleasant, feel-good aspect – often linked with the bestowal or arrival of love, generosity, and kindness – suggests that some good fortune or positive karma may be in the cards for us today! Wouldn’t that be nice?

Too, while it’s not necessarily a huge aspect, it can be a time when we feel a bit more optimistic or hopeful. Especially when we are perhaps gathered with friends or loved ones, or simply doing things that we enjoy. It’s often a great time to have a party. Or to mingle with new people from diverse backgrounds – especially now with Venus in eclectic Aquarius.

Also, it could be that this potentially nice cosmic payback is in humble recognition for some of the accumulated good that we have somehow managed to generate in the world to date – despite, sometimes, the onerous presence of many overriding, contradictory, inherent behavioral tendencies, within our delicate being, that often causes us to seemingly screw up much of what we touch. Psychiatrists call these tendencies the “reverse Midas Touch” or the “Midas-less Touch.” Too, if you were watching C-SPAN yesterday you maybe witnessed Kevin McCarthy displaying a few symptoms, of this condition – on the House floor – after the third vote was counted,

Too, it is really fascinating, astrologically – the correlation – that we now have no Speaker of the House at a time when ‘speaker’ Mercury in Capricorn – the sign which rules government – is also retrograde. Along with mover or shaker Mars retrograde, which is essentially at a standstill now, in the heavens, in Mercury-ruled Gemini – ahead of his direct station on January 12. Maybe I’m making too much of all of this. But it just strikes me as hugely symbolic for the moment. Too, feel free to weigh in here, if you like.

Anyway, reportedly nothing can get done now – no sausage can be made, so to speak – in the People’s House – until a new speaker is selected.

Historically, the speaker vote has not gone past a first ballot since 1923 – when lawmakers needed nine ballots to pick a leader.

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Astrology January 3, 2023: Moon Conjuncts Mars Rx in Gemini

Cosmic Weather:

“Once we believe in ourselves, we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight, or any experience that reveals the human spirit.” – e. e. cummings

Luna – now in her Waxing Gibbous phase with 89% illumination – will spend her first full day in busy Gemini after shifting into that sign late last night. In Gemini, the Moon is more communicative and inquisitive. She is often particularly curious about what is going on in her immediate environment, including perhaps wanting to know what her neighbors are up to. Or maybe wondering who that stranger is walking down her street and why that person is there in the first place? Luna in Gemini reminds me a little of the nosy next-door neighbor Gladys Kravitz in the old “Bewitched” television series. Do you remember her? Always staring out her front window with a pair of binoculars, invariably looking aghast by what she sees.

A focal point for Luna today will be her conjunction with Mars Rx (2:47 pm) which ought to be interesting as Mars – which will be stationing direct on January 12 – is right now barely moving in the sky and will not even get back to some semblance of its normal speed until early February.

Moon-Mars conjunctions are usually synonymous with our taking some kind of action. But sometimes that action is undertaken too hastily so we may need to be on guard that we don’t inadvertently trip ourselves up with this one. And, of course, too, Mars is retrograde and Mercury – which rules Gemini – is also retrograde in Capricorn, stationing direct on January 18th, so it is possible that any action that we do take now will end up having to be revised or changed later – so we may want to just keep that in mind. However, this is often a very good aspect for physically working out, especially as a way to dissolve tension or stress or to perhaps get working on some of those New Year’s resolutions to become fitter.

Also, lest I forget, sometimes another possible shadow-side manifestation of a Moon-Mars hookup is that we fly off the handle and feel like giving everyone the finger! Not that any of us gathered here would actually do anything like that, mind you. 🙂 Just that the chance for something like this to occur might be a little more pronounced now – especially if we do not try to rein ourselves in and pause and take a few deep breaths.

Too, perhaps this is not really the most ideal cosmic climate for republican Kevin McCarthy to be facing today as he hopes to become ‘speaker of the house’ as a new divided congress convenes on Capitol Hill today for the very first time. Reportedly, he is already facing serious pushback from a few republicans who say that they will not vote for him for that position. Interesting to see what might or might not develop here. While I also really don’t care to wade into politics – as that has become such a divisive topic – I do wish that more of our elected officials would at least try to get along with each other and just do what we voted them into office to do. There, I’ve said my piece! – which was pretty much inevitable under this chatty Gemini Moon.

“Pull the string and it will follow you wherever you wish. Push it, and it will go nowhere at all.” Dwight D. Eisenhower

Astrology January 2, 2023: Sun Squares Chiron, Venus Enters Aquarius

Cosmic Weather:

“One mustn’t close one’s eyes to difficulty and shortcomings; the more one recognizes them, the less they upset one.” – Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

Sun in Capricorn square Chiron in Aries (11:01 am) – Wouldn’t you know it, here we are in just day two of 2023 and some of us – perhaps many of us – are already clamoring for a do-over of New Year’s Eve – including presumably CNN host Don Lemon who reportedly completely missed the clock striking midnight in New Orleans, tossing out beads to the crowd as the band played “Back That Azz Up.” That’s got to be a tough, painful one to have to try and live down on live TV!

Fortunately, though, due to very low ratings and overall declining network viewership, only five people were actually watching CNN at the time (which, coincidentally, is also roughly the same number of people who read this blog daily) so Lemon will likely live to see the light of yet, another day, in his prestigious anchor job at the network.

Too, in total fairness, the mishap was supposedly caused by Lemon having technical difficulty with his earpiece and he could not hear what the producer was saying to him; of course, that is also the official network spin. Those of us in the ‘cosmic know’ understand that the screw-up was really more likely due to something much more substantive and dire: the double-whammy of both intellectual Mercury Rx in corporate Capricorn – the sign that symbolically rules hearing, earpieces, and time itself – and mover and shaker Mars Rx in fidgety Gemini, the sign which is thought to govern, among other things, the various on-air antics of reporters or TV spokespersons.

The Sun-Chiron square staring us down this morning can sometimes, temporarily, throw us off our game a bit as it potentially lines up with many of our perceived vulnerabilities, blunders, missteps, etc. to seemingly create a perfect storm of inner discontent or angst. We are perhaps somewhat making light of it now here, but this can be a more challenging aspect to navigate because it can sometimes lead us to seriously second-guessing or doubting ourselves; at least, that is, until we maybe have had enough of all the wallowing and then start looking for a good exit strategy to help get us back on track. For me, that’s usually humor or engaging in self-deprecation. Along with publicly cursing the stars. 🙂 Too, sometimes when we get bummed out with this aspect, it is because we are maybe trying to do too much, and we just need a break to regroup our energies.

Venus enters non-conforming Aquarius (9:09 pm) – This costume change for the planet of love, beauty, and fashion is one that many aging baby boomers – pining fondly for their former psychedelic hippie days of the late 1960s – especially look forward to every year as they get to haul out from storage their old bellbottoms, miniskirts, and tie-dyed t-shirts. Better yet, if some of them can also get a chance – during this Venus transit – to thrillingly throw some of these personal items up on stage when fellow boomer, Rolling Stone Mick Jagger, is performing ‘Satisfaction’ for the millionth time somewhere; probably at an old honkey-tonk in rural Kansas or something.

Anyway, Venus will be roaming around wild and free, in quirky Aquarius, until January 26th, so, again, don’t be surprised if you see scores of old people aimlessly walking around holding up protest signs, until then, that reminiscently say: “Free love.” “Make love, not war.” Too, probably the best astrology advice that I could give all of you here is to do whatever you can to avoid their spaced-out gazes, if at all possible. That’s really important. But, if you can’t, then just try to do your best to humor them as much as possible, knowing that many of them are also probably experiencing an LSD flashback or something. Also possibly tell them that you, too, were opposed to the Vietnam War, at the time – even though you maybe were not even around then. It doesn’t matter. Too, January 26th will be here before we know it!

“We’re all familiar with the Hippie dress code. Long hair, beards, psychedelic colours, sandals, lots of beads, and the women could often be seen wearing long, flowery granny dresses. So much so in fact that it became a uniform. Hippies rebelled so much against inflexible dress codes that eventually they created their own rigid styles.” – Karl Wiggins, Wrong Planet – Searching for your Tribe.

“For last year’s words belong to last year’s language
And next year’s words await another voice.
And to make an end is to make a beginning.” – T.S. Eliot

Venus conjunct Pluto in Capricorn (12:25 am) – Helps us to feel things with greater passion or intensity. Sometimes it can feel a little bit like a soap opera playing out, relationship-wise, with some elements of jealousy or possessiveness threaded through it, although with this aspect occurring in more constrained Capricorn – where outward appearances matter very much – this may be less the case.

Also, for those of us in the eastern time zone of the US, this is the very first aspect of the new year, so we maybe have to be wondering what kind of symbolism, if any, it is sending about the overall nature of 2023? Could it possibly be we need to hire a Hollywood agent, this year, and audition for a role on The Young and Restless? Too, I am personally wondering, do they even allow old and restless people (like myself) on to that set – or are we simply going to be limited to playing the bit part ‘greeter roles’ at Walmart for the rest of our lives?

Taurus Moon trine Capricorn Sun (8:42 am) – Anyway – on paper today, at least – it looks like we are poised to start the new year off on solid footing this morning – once we can motivate ourselves to get out from under the steamy Venus-Pluto sheets! This Moon-Sun trine, in earth signs, is excellent grounding energy. Too, depending on how much partying we did last night, it usually is ideal for such activities as planning, budget-crunching, and getting organized. Capricorn Sun native, Benjamin Franklin, once said, “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.” No doubt, too, if ole’ Ben were still alive today, he would be busy cavorting with Mercury Rx in Capricorn now and they would both be tallying up all the liquor receipts from NYE.

Taurus Moon conjunct Uranus Rx (4:52 pm) – Of course, all of this record-keeping stuff will likely have to come to a screeching halt once rogue Uranus puts in his disheveled appearance. There’s no telling where he has stashed his bitcoin receipts and Sam Bankman-Fried won’t pony up. 🙂

Born On This Day: J. Edgar Hoover, in Washington DC, in 1895 (d. 5/2/77). He served as the first Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He was appointed director of the Bureau of Investigation – the FBI’s predecessor – in 1924 and was instrumental in founding the FBI in 1935, where he remained director for another 37 years until his death in 1972.

Hoover built the FBI into a larger crime-fighting agency than it was at its inception and instituted a number of modernizations to police technology, such as a centralized fingerprint file and forensic laboratories. Hoover also established and expanded a national blacklist, referred to as the FBI Index or Index List. Later in life and after his death, Hoover became a controversial figure as evidence of his secretive abuses of power began to surface (of course, some might also say that this same sort of thing is still going on at the FBI). “When morals decline and good men do nothing, evil flourishes.” – J. Edgar Hoover

On that cheery note, would like to wish everyone a “Happy New Year!” Hope that you prosper and enjoy good health in 2023. I appreciate your stopping by.

Astrology December 28, 2022: Venus Sextile Neptune

Venus in Capricorn sextile Neptune in Pisces at 22 deg (3:32 am)

This more subtle aspect may stimulate our creativity and love of beauty, art, music or poetry. With Neptune also governing film, it may be a fun time to kick back and watch an old classic. Or perhaps post our own video on Instagram. Also, very supportive here is the fact that we still have the Waxing Crescent Moon deposited in dreamy Pisces as well and it will be conjuncting Neptune (5:05 pm) and sextiling Venus (6:25 pm) today.

Romantically, it can be a time when we are more idealistic, including maybe longing for a meetup on the soul level. Additionally, this aspect is linked with the bestowal of unconditional love or heightened compassion.

Workwise, we may find that we experience more inner contentment with respect to what we have achieved or mastered. Also, we maybe are feeling more inspired about the possibilities ahead.

“The morning felt like a mixing bowl just waiting for its ingredients; there was a sense of possibility to it, a promise of something more to come.” – Jennifer E. Smith

Some of the things that Neptune rules include maritime interests; hospitals or places of confinement; the oil and gas industry; the cosmetics industry; spirituality; prayer or meditation; the nocturnal dream world; visualization.

Astrologically, that day, initiating Mars, in perfecting Virgo, was in a tight trine to spiritually minded Neptune in builder Taurus.

“The first step towards true enlightenment is to lighten up on yourself.” – Bashar

Lots going on in the astrology world this week! – although it still may be a bit less hectic than last week – which saw the debut of the Winter Solstice, Jupiter’s ingress into Aries, and the Capricorn New Moon. This week’s highlights include Mercury and Venus’ meetup in Capricorn and Mercury’s stationing retrograde (start backing up your computer files!) – both events occurring on the 29th; the day before that, on the 28th, Venus will also sextile dreamy Neptune. Too, on New Year’s Day, Venus and Pluto will team up for their annual conjunction.

Today, the Waxing Crescent Moon will spend one more day in bohemian-style Aquarius, typically a time when we may feel much more inclined to ‘do our own thing’ as we set upon manifesting our New Moon intentions as the light of the Crescent Moon increases. However, with Luna forming a conjunction to more judgment-minded Saturn (1:19 pm), it is possible we could feel a bit emotionally conflicted regarding what we may want to do versus what we think we should be doing.

On another level, this lunar aspect may be a positive time to make some structural changes or alterations, especially perhaps finding a way to reduce any excesses or redundancies.

After the Moon-Saturn conjunction, Luna will also go void of course until its entrance into Pisces, tomorrow morning (the 27th) at 2:34 am. The Moon goes from Aquarius to Taurus this week.

On This Day in History:  On December 26, 1933, a patent for FM Radio was granted to American engineer Edwin Howard Armstrong.

Astrologically, that day, communicator Mercury in futuristic Sagittarius was exactly sextile expansive Jupiter in Libra, excellent for contractual matters; Jupiter also helps to expand or broaden the reach of things and FM radio pretty much ended up doing that, essentially eclipsing the stature of AM radio. Mercury was also trine inventive Uranus, in pioneering Aries, with Uranus also ruling broadcasting. Too, Jupiter and Uranus were in opposition to each other, at the time, often a boon for major discoveries or any type of technological advancements. The first walk on the Moon by astronauts occurred when Jupiter and Uranus were exactly conjunct in Libra.

Happy Kwanzaa and Happy Box Day! Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Cosmic Weather:

“Throw your dreams into space like a kite, and you do not know what it will bring back, a new life, a new friend, a new love, a new country.” – Anais Nin

No matter that many of us in the U.S. may be bummed out by the brutal cold weather that has currently hijacked much of the country, making holiday travel very difficult – even treacherous or impossible in some regions – today’s astrology still suggests that we may want to consider hitching either our wagon or SUV to a twinkling star and making a wish as thinker Mercury in Scrooge-minded Capricorn forms a magical sextile to transcendental Neptune in fairy-tale Pisces (8:17 pm), suggesting that the veil between worlds is thinner now.

Who knows, this more forgiving, envisioning aspect may even convince Santa to overlook our myriad transgressions, this past year, and charitably leave us something under the tree tonight other than the usual lump of coal in our stockings. 🙂

Mercury-Neptune is excellent for any type of creative work as it may more readily propel us into a state of dreaminess or relaxed consciousness. At the same time, Mercury in organizing, practical Capricorn can help add definition or form to any of the byproducts that visionary Neptune conjures up. We may also want to keep a journal by our bed tonight, as this influence can give rise to very vivid nocturnal dreams as well. What is also interesting about our dreams, and their particular content, is that they often seem to mirror, in symbolic fashion, the astrological themes of the moment.

Due to Mercury stationing retrograde on December 29, we will also have this Mercury-Neptune aspect two more times – on January 2 and February 6 – suggesting something that we undertake today may be put aside and sent back to the drawing board for a redo, before it is finally awarded its angel wings.

On This Day in History: On December 24, 1955, NORAD’s Santa tracking service begins. The event is now a Christmas tradition where the North American Aerospace Defense Command tracks Santa Claus as he travels around the world delivering presents to children. The event began after a printing error in a Sears catalog asking children to call Santa Claus. The number that was printed was the number of Colorado Springs’ Continental Air Defense Command (CONAD) Center. (timeanddate.com)

(Among the astrological aspects, that day, love goddess Venus had just entered hi-tech, aircraft-ruling Aquarius, at 0 degrees, and was forming an exact square to fantasy Neptune at 0 degrees of transformational Scorpio. Venus was also opposing trend-setting Uranus, at 1 degree of theatrical Leo, an influence that often has us searching for “out of the ordinary” experiences that ideally add some extra pizzazz to our lives. Also, very helpful then was ‘Santa Claus’ Jupiter’s near exact trine to the empowering Capricorn Sun. Positive Sun-Jupiter aspects often expand feelings of peace and goodwill and tends to operate on a broad scale.; the Capricorn Sun is also very tradition minded.)

“We have to deal with a polar vortex once in a while, but Santa lives year-round in one at the North Pole, so he’s used to this weather,” deadpanned U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant Ben Wiseman, a spokesman for the North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD, which tracks the yuletide flight. Astrology December 21, 2022: Sun Enters Capricorn, Squares Jupiter

Cosmic Weather:

“I’ve come to believe that each of us has a personal calling that’s as unique as a fingerprint – and that the best way to succeed is to discover what you love and then find a way to offer it to others in the form of service, working hard, and also allowing the energy of the universe to lead you.” Oprah Winfrey

Sun enters Capricorn (4:48 pm) – This ingress also marks the Winter Solstice point in the Northern Hemisphere – the shortest day of the year with the longest night of the year. After this date, there will be a ‘return of the light’ as the days will grow longer, the nights shorter, the Sun symbolically marking a rebirth from death or darkness. Likewise, it can be a time when we may become clearer or more illuminated with respect to what we would like to birth or manifest in the new year, as well as what we may need to release.

Saturn-ruled Capricorn, represented by the mountain goat, symbolizes the slow but steady ascent to the top. The Sun in Capricorn teaches us the power of patience, focus, self-discipline, and experience.

Interestingly enough, shortly after the Sun enters Capricorn today it will also form a square to expansive Jupiter, newly installed in the irrepressible sign of Aries the Ram (7:50 pm); this pairing between the two largest bodies in our solar system could be a bit tricky for us to navigate as Jupiter tends to implore us to ‘go big’ or pull out all the stops, while the Sun in cautious Cappie is an advocate for more restraint.

While it may be very possible for us to reach new heights now, there is also the possibility that we find that there is a hefty price for us to pay later if we try to do too much or overburden our resources. Kind of like the proverbial scenario of overeating at the buffet bar only to discover afterwards that we no longer can fit into our britches. Jupiter can be the planet of luck and prosperity, but it also can be the cosmic indicator of excess. The prudent Sun in Capricorn suggests – when in doubt – ‘going small’ or moderating our impulses may be the wisest strategy that saves the day for us and allows us to shine our light ‘in all its glory’ over the long-term.

“Excessive sorrow laughs. Excessive joy weeps.” – William Blake

On This Day in History – Apollo 8 went into space: the 1st manned Moon voyage launched with astronauts Frank Borman, Jim Lovell and William Anders.

Astrologically, on that day, Jupiter and Uranus were closely conjunct (less than one degree apart) in the sign of Libra, with Libra’s ruler, Venus, deposited in innovative Aquarius. Jupiter represents long distance travel and Uranus governs technology and aviation (and also rules Aquarius). Often when these two are paired we experience sudden opportunities and a broadening of our horizons. This aspect is also associated with elements of genius. Also, consciousness downloads.

“And from the crew of Apollo 8, we close with good night, good luck, a Merry Christmas, and God bless all of you – all of you on the good Earth.” — Frank Borman

Astrology December 20, 2022: Jupiter Re-enters Aries

Tags

, , ,

Cosmic Weather:

“If you put yourself in a position where you have to stretch outside your comfort zone, then you are forced to expand your consciousness.” – Les Brown

Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system – and more than twice as big as all the other planets combined – makes its grand re-entry into fiery Aries the Ram this morning (9:32 am), where it will remain until May 16, 2023. Earlier this year, on May 10th, Jupiter first entered Aries, then stationed retrograde on July 28th, and ingressed back into Pisces on October 28th. Projects that we began back in May, that were then put on the back burner during the retrograde phase, are now ready to be resumed, possibly with greater definition or form to them as a result of the reflective Rx period. Too, if maybe we were a little late to the game in May and missed the first Jupiter in Aries rollout, we have a second chance now to maybe hit one out of the park.

Just like its physical size, Jupiter tends to operate in more of a gargantuan – or as a former US president might say – a bigly fashion. It can push us to our limits – and beyond – especially when it is given free rein in Aries, the first sign of the zodiac, associated with pioneering, self-assertion, and personal new beginnings. Jupiter in Aries is thought to be an excellent time to focus on matters that add to our self-discovery, elevate courage or bravery, and contribute to our sense that we are making a positive difference in the world. We will also want to make sure that we remain very focused on our vision and what we are trying to accomplish during this time. Some shadow-side manifestations of Jupiter in Aries include trying to do too much, going to excess, being too self-righteous or arrogant, and becoming too aggressive.

*All times EST

On This Day in History: On December 20, 1860, South Carolina became the first state to secede from the Union as all 169 delegates to a special convention in Charleston voted in favor of separation. South Carolina wanted to withdraw from the US because Abraham Lincoln, a member of the new Republican party, had just been elected president, and wanted to stop slavery from spreading into western territories. South Carolina lawmakers, meanwhile, were concerned that any interference with slavery would end their way of life. They also believed they had a constitutional right to take property – including slaves – anywhere. (manythings.org)

Astrologically, that day, among the notable aspects, was an exact square between Saturn in Virgo and Uranus in Gemini, which were both at 9 degrees of their respective signs. The square between these two bodies is often associated with experiencing a great deal of tension or pressure as the desire to maintain the status quo (Saturn) is seemingly seriously threatened by radical change (Uranus), which can then lead to taking unprecedented actions. Decision-maker Mercury, in ideologically-oriented Sagittarius, was also at 8 degrees then and applying to an exact square to Saturn and opposition to Uranus (creating a mutable T-square in the sky); Mercury square Saturn can find us making decisions based on fear, while Mercury opposing Uranus can propel us to act more boldly or precipitously.

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

“The distance between us grows with each passing minute. Will he take my arm again, or will I have to take his?” – Stephanie Perkins, Lola and the Boy Next Door

Venus in Capricorn Squares Chiron Rx in Aries (11:22 am): This aspect may find us reliving old relationship wounds, including possibly rehashing the sting of rejection by lovers or maybe fallouts with workmates, which could result in, among other things, more of a hesitancy to want to commit. Too, another possibility is that we may be feeling unworthy or pressured because we perceive that we have not really lived up to our own expectations for ourselves. Of course, we can also choose to put a more positive spin on things here by focusing, perhaps, on what we are grateful for, including lessons learned.

Venus in Capricorn Quincunx Mars Rx in Gemini (12:36 pm): This aspect suggests some possible awkwardness going after what we want. It could be, too, that our timing may be off or that we are trying too hard.

Mars Rx in Gemini Sextile Chiron Rx in Aries (5:37 pm): This helps us to acknowledge our missteps or insecurities and activates us to want to do something about them so that we can move on. Talking about things may also be healing now.

“I have come to believe over and over again that what is most important to me must be spoken, made verbal, and shared, even at the risk of having it bruised or misunderstood.” – Audre Lord

On This Day in History: On December 19, 1843, the revered classic “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens is published.

Among the astrological aspects, of that day: expansive Jupiter – commonly regarded as the goodwill ambassador – and also the planet which governs literature and publishing, was conjunct Neptune, the planet of imagination, in altruistic, collective-minded Aquarius, an aspect that can also appreciably magnify our idealism. Both were also sextile to the empowering Sun in the Jupiter-ruled sign of Sagittarius; Sadge rules our beliefs and convictions, as well as our sense of ethics or morality. The Sun-Jupiter sextile is also particularly favorable for publishing; it can also help a matter to have a broader impact.

“Reflect upon your present blessings—of which every man has many—not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some.” – Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.
