Cosmic Weather:

“I’ve come to believe that each of us has a personal calling that’s as unique as a fingerprint – and that the best way to succeed is to discover what you love and then find a way to offer it to others in the form of service, working hard, and also allowing the energy of the universe to lead you.” Oprah Winfrey

Sun enters Capricorn (4:48 pm) – This ingress also marks the Winter Solstice point in the Northern Hemisphere – the shortest day of the year with the longest night of the year. After this date, there will be a ‘return of the light’ as the days will grow longer, the nights shorter, the Sun symbolically marking a rebirth from death or darkness. Likewise, it can be a time when we may become clearer or more illuminated with respect to what we would like to birth or manifest in the new year, as well as what we may need to release.

Saturn-ruled Capricorn, represented by the mountain goat, symbolizes the slow but steady ascent to the top. The Sun in Capricorn teaches us the power of patience, focus, self-discipline, and experience.

Interestingly enough, shortly after the Sun enters Capricorn today it will also form a square to expansive Jupiter, newly installed in the irrepressible sign of Aries the Ram (7:50 pm); this pairing between the two largest bodies in our solar system could be a bit tricky for us to navigate as Jupiter tends to implore us to ‘go big’ or pull out all the stops, while the Sun in cautious Cappie is an advocate for more restraint.

While it may be very possible for us to reach new heights now, there is also the possibility that we find that there is a hefty price for us to pay later if we try to do too much or overburden our resources. Kind of like the proverbial scenario of overeating at the buffet bar only to discover afterwards that we no longer can fit into our britches. Jupiter can be the planet of luck and prosperity, but it also can be the cosmic indicator of excess. The prudent Sun in Capricorn suggests – when in doubt – ‘going small’ or moderating our impulses may be the wisest strategy that saves the day for us and allows us to shine our light ‘in all its glory’ over the long-term.

“Excessive sorrow laughs. Excessive joy weeps.” – William Blake

On This Day in History – Apollo 8 went into space: the 1st manned Moon voyage launched with astronauts Frank Borman, Jim Lovell and William Anders.

Astrologically, on that day, Jupiter and Uranus were closely conjunct (less than one degree apart) in the sign of Libra, with Libra’s ruler, Venus, deposited in innovative Aquarius. Jupiter represents long distance travel and Uranus governs technology and aviation (and also rules Aquarius). Often when these two are paired we experience sudden opportunities and a broadening of our horizons. This aspect is also associated with elements of genius. Also, consciousness downloads.

“And from the crew of Apollo 8, we close with good night, good luck, a Merry Christmas, and God bless all of you – all of you on the good Earth.” — Frank Borman

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Born Today, daily astrology, President Biden and President Xi, Sun square Jupiter, Venus square Chiron

Cosmic Weather:

Kind of a schizophrenic Monday:

The Venus in Capricorn square to Chiron retrograde in Aries (3:07 am) could foment some sense of inner discontent, insecurity, feelings of unworthiness with our relationships, status/position, or money situation. Also, comparing ourselves to others now can be a very prickly path that we don’t really need to embark upon. Better to set our sights on what is achievable and why we deserve to have what we want.

The transformative Sun in Scorpio and expansive Jupiter in innovative Aquarius – the two biggest heavenly bodies in our solar system – are also squaring off today (2:58 pm). Grand gestures, colossal or bigger than expected outcomes/results, gargantuan opportunities/circumstances are all possibly part of the eclectic mix now, along with, no doubt, an over-abundance of bloated egos. While it’s easier to go overboard with things now, there may very well be some reason for celebration as new ways to get ahead may emerge on the titillating horizon. Just remember: moderation is key and that more doesn’t always translate into our being merrier or more satisfied (unless, of course, it has something to do with George Clooney!) Sometimes having more of something can actually translate into greater constraints on our time or our freedom, which can end up leaving us feeling worn out or depleted. So, the bottom line here today is to know and respect our limits. Or put another way, leave something in the buffet bar for others!

Interestingly, President Biden and President Xi of China are also planning on meeting virtually today on this splashy Sun-Jupiter day. Biden is also supposed to sign his $1 trillion infrastructure package into law at a ceremony at the White House.

Born On This Day: German-born British astronomer Sir William Herschel in 1738 (d. in 1822). In his spare time, Herschel discovered the planet Uranus (the first planet discovered since antiquity), hypothesized that nebulae are composed of stars, and developed a theory of stellar evolution. He also was the founder of sidereal astronomy for the systematic observation of the stars and nebulae beyond the solar system. He was knighted in 1816. Needless to say, he set a sky-high bar for all of us!

“I have looked further into space than ever human being did before me. I have observed stars of which the light, it can be proved, must take two million years to reach the earth.”

Back down to earth, hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Astrology October 11, 2020: Sun Square Jupiter, Sun Quinqunx Neptune

Cosmic Weather:

Today we may be tempted to eschew or give a thumbs down, to any small, medium, or even what could be described as normal-sized large gestures or overtures in favor of going with or holding out for the “whopper” or “jumbo” options instead (you know, part of the whole “bigger is better” philosophy). While Sun square Jupiter (9:34 am) can positively give us a gargantuan shot of self-confidence or enthusiasm, the downside to it is that it can often find us overestimating our rave abilities or getting immersed in activities that end up requiring more energy than they’re worth.

Another lovely, dubious shadow side to the often “over the top” Sun-Jupiter energy is that it can sometimes bring out our irresistible self-righteousness (or virtue-signaling side), which can then, no doubt, quickly descend into experiencing various awkward, random, complicated moments of holy finger-pointing, which can then lead to smelly toe-pointing, and then eventually morphing into engaging in cringe-worthy, highly suspect “paint-by-number” charades. And that’s likely just the beginning!

We also may have another precarious Cinderella glass slipper dropping into the fathomless, bottomless, oceanic depths with the (“please-like-me”) pretty Libra Sun quincunx to psychedelic hippie Neptune Retrograde, occurring in the sign of fishy, self-flagellating Pisces (11:31 am). We can’t detail all the scandalous, risque ramifications that could possibly come about from this little cosmic quickie, but suffice it to say, the map of directions regarding the fastest, surefire way to arrive at sacred Nirvana (or the scenario in which the magic slipper fits the fairy tale princess’s foot) is likely to become very soggy or waterlogged now. So please tread and chant “OM” very carefully now! 🙂 Challenging Sun-Neptune aspects often make things appear other than they are and sometimes what is being masked or covered up is much stranger than first thought or ever could have been imagined.

“Some stories have to be written because no one would believe the absurdity of it all.” Shannon L. Adler

Tarot Card for the Day: The Hangman, suggesting the need for surrender instead of resistance. Excellent for meditation or seeking wisdom.

On This Day in History: On October 11, 1939, Albert Einstein informs FDR of the possibilities of an atomic bomb.

Astrologically, that day, communicator Mercury had just entered the life and death sign of Scorpio, at zero degrees (Scorpio rules bombs). Expansive Jupiter, retrograde in “warrior” Aries the ram was also exactly trine to transformative Pluto, Scorpio’s modern-day ruler. Jupiter-Pluto aspects are often associated with being able to wield or generate tremendous power and influence. Pluto was also in the ostenstatious, larger than life sign of Leo the Lion.

Birthdays today: Former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt (and FDR’s wife), who was born on Oct. 11, 1884 (d. 1962). Cardi B. also is turning 28 today.

Hope you enjoy your Sunday! Please be safe and well.

“Everything in excess is opposed to nature.” Hippocrates

Patrice’s “Cosmic Word of The Day”: Excess

n. ik-ses, ek-ses; adj., v.ek-ses, ik-ses

noun 1) the fact of exceeding something else in amount or degree; 2) an extreme or excessive amount or degree; superabundance 3) going beyond what is customary or proper

origin: 1350-1400 < L excessus departure, digression

Cosmic weather: I believe the “excess” pig photo above pretty much sums up the cosmic forecast for us today. Enjoy your day, but be careful of excessive behaviors now with the already abundant Jupiter made even more over-sized with a tight square from the Sun. This may be especially the case when the Moon switches from controlled Scorpio to overly optimistic, unrestrained Sagittarius (2:11 pm EDT). Jupiter is the planet that rules Sagittarius!

“‘Never go to excess, but let moderation be your guide.” Cicero

“Tis not the eating, nor ’tis not the drinking that is to be blamed, but the excess.” John Selden

“Excess of sorrow laughs, excess of joy weeps.” William Blake

News Update: The Gulf oil leak is back to gushing out full force with the Sun square Jupiter today. The temporary cap BP had earlier put on the pipe under the Mars-Neptune opposition developed problems and had to be removed. Sun-Jupiter can be a wicked waste of resources and a very difficult influence to stem, even though Jupiter is considered a “benefic” planet.

U.S. Gen. Petraeus is poised to take over command of the Aghan War after Pres. Obama accepted the resignation of Gen. McChrystal who made disparaging remarks about the Administration in a Rolling Stone story.

Interestingly, news of this RS story broke yesterday with the probing Scorpio Moon square to both Jupiter and Uranus in Aries the sign of the military and war efforts.  Jupiter-Uranus can bring sudden surprises and monumental discoveries, and in this case, that is exactly what happened, with possible long-term repercussions for the Afghan war.

McChrystal is being replaced today, too, under the exact Sun Jupiter square which can indicate fallout from “excessive behavior” and it seems, McChrystal’s imprudent comments to the RS reporter are what originally got him into hot water.  McChrystal it appears was “gushing at the mouth” just like the oil is “gushing out” in the Gulf today. “Excess” is all over the place today, isn’t it?

“In any really good subject, one has only to probe deep enough to come to tears.” Edith Wharton

Patrice’s “Cosmic Word of The Day”: Probe

probe “prohb”

verb (used with object) 1) to search into or examine thoroughly; question closely 2) to examine or explore with a probe

noun 1) the act of probing

origin: 1555-65; (n.) < ML proba examination

Cosmic Weather: The emotional Moon sequestered in hidden Scorpio and pioneering Mars in analytical Virgo make it an excellent day for all layers of probing and investigation. The psychic Cancer Sun is also in close proximity (via the square aspect) to breakthrough Uranus and fortuitous Jupiter in discovery Aries. Monumental discoveries may be ours for the asking but we must stay focused and we must keep probing.
