“Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.” President Abraham Lincoln.

We have great determination and opportunity to make headway regarding our plans with the Moon continuing her reign through power-driven Scorpio.  The Moon here arouses our passions and makes us want to forcefully go after whatever it is we want.  The trick here is to do so in a way that doesn’t invite hostile opposition which occurs when others see us as trying to gain an unfair advantage over them.

We still have the Jupiter-Mars “sesquiquadrate influence,” an odd merging of energy that can make us more obsessed with our beliefs and also more inclined to feel that we need to stand up for them regardless of the consequences.

With romantic Venus now in Taurus and still quinqunx (stressful) to Saturn, we have a need for more stability and reassurance from others within the framework of our love relationships.

“Becoming the new feminine ideal requires just the right combination of insecurity, exercise, bulimia and surgery.” G. B. Trudeau

In The News: President Obama announced a new plan Wednesday to expand offshore oil drilling. In astrology, oil falls under the domain of the planet Neptune and also the zodiacal sign Pisces (which is ruled by Neptune).  On Wednesday, at the time of the announcement, Mercury (governing news) was in pioneering Aries and in exact alignment (sextile) to Neptune. (Hence, the “oil news” and a corresponding new (Aries) development in conjunction with it – the oil drilling.)

Additionally, expansive Jupiter (presently in Pisces) was in a stressful relationship (sesquiquadrate) to aggressive Mars in Leo on Wednesday. President Obama’s new proposed oil-drilling policy is not without its share of detractors, particularly from some environmentalists, who fear the new drilling could have adverse environmental consequences.

Mars also rules war, and with its “stress aspect” to Jupiter in Pisces (with Pisces ruling the sea) one could symbolically regard the Mar-Jupiter symbolism as an “assault on the sea” in order to steal from it, its rich bounty (Jupiter).

Often when we get assertive Mars and moralistic Jupiter together (in a more challenging aspect) we see “defensive posturing” of our beliefs and philosophies affecting the issues.  Mars represents what we are passionate about while Jupiter rules our deepest convictions and also the desire to grow beyond our current boundaries.  With Mars-Jupiter, we often feel “fired up to do battle” because of  what we believe in. We become this way often because we interpret real threats to our views and perhaps even fear for our survival, or at least the matter of our continued dominance.

President Obama’s personal horoscope is ironically being impacted by this very same Mars-Jupiter influence now, as his birthchart Mercury is 2 degrees of Leo, exactly where transiting Mars is right now.  Since he has had this aspect activated the last several days, he has been very busy promoting his own personal agenda and convictions as President, initiating meetings with two world leaders,  signing the health care “fix-it” resolution into law, and now unveiling his plan on oil drilling. This influence still lingers around for him a few more days.

Peace and love, everyone.  Enjoy day!
