Karl Rove, born Christmas Day, Wrote His Memoir With Pluto On His Sun

26 Saturday Dec 2009

Former White House Deputy Chief of Staff for George W. Bush,  Karl Rove, born 12/25/50, birthtime unknown, has reportedly finished writing his memoir, an endeavor he undertook while the revealing and eye-opening Pluto was conjuncting his 2 degree Capricorn Sun. In astrology, Pluto is referred to as the Lord of Death, and governs related matters of re-birth and transformation. It also has rulership over what is buried deep down inside an individual, and is sometimes  referred to as one’s private inner hell, while the Sun governs one’s basic essence or urge to be.

This major Pluto-Sun influence can often incline a person to want to reveal or share with others, what is at their very core, including sharing their deepest, darkest, innermost secrets, usually in a cathartic attempt to free themselves, psychologically, of their past.   Some individuals seek professional psychotherapy,  with Pluto transits, as a meaningful way to integrate their inner and outer worlds. That is why it is interesting and very fitting, astrologically, that Rove chose to write his memoir under Pluto’s ray, as he probably did have a genuine need to “come clean” and put to rest, so to speak, nagging issues that maybe have been bothering or haunting him deep inside.

Also, occasionally on the flip side, under Pluto’s influence, secret aspects of an individual’s past that they may have wanted to keep private, are suddenly revealed to the world by other people.  The information leaked can sometimes be potentially damaging to the person’s reputation, in question,  particularly if they have been engaging in any clandestine or illegal activities. Pluto is associated with covert activity, such as spying and sting operations. It also rules the Mafia and underworld, even terrorism. Additionally, it deals with issues of power and control.  Of course, Karl Rove will, no doubt, be discussing, in his memoir, how he was able to amass and wield his notable political power, over the years,  and the resulting impact of that power on the collective.  Many people credit Rove’s savvy with getting George W. Bush elected President.

Threshold Editions announced, late November, that they will publish the Republican strategist’s 592-page memoir, “Courage and Consequence” on March 9, 2010.  The book is reportedly going to “set the record straight on those controversial years” of the Bush administration and his role in it.  It has been rumored that Rove will be paid over $1.5 million for the book deal.

When the memoir is released in March, in addition to the lingering Pluto Sun conjunction, Rove will also be smack in the middle of his second Saturn return, with Saturn retrograding then at 2 degrees of Libra, exactly conjunct his natal Saturn and also exactly square to his natal Sun.  Saturn returns can be periods of high professional achievement, although, there can additionally be opposition, challenges, and criticism from detractors, as well then, depending, in part, on what the individual has set into motion, on their journey to the top, and how many enemies they may have made, along the way. Of course, in politics, too, you’re always going to make enemies, that seems to be the nature of the beast.

Looking back at Rove’s solar chart, we see that he was appointed to the Deputy Chief  of Staff job on 2/08/05 when transiting Mars in Capricorn was exactly conjunct his Sun, an astrological configuration often indicative of increased responsibilities and duties, as both Mars and the Sun pertain to leadership and management functions, and the Mars conjunction bestows opportunity. Then a couple years later, under a swirl of controversy, as well as declining popularity for George W. Bush’s presidency, Rove suddenly announced he was leaving his administration post on 8/13/07, when Transiting Mars was exactly quinqunx his natal Sun, a stressful career adjustment influence.  Transiting Pluto was also  conjunct his natal Chiron in Sagittarius, the wounded warrior aspect, when he stepped down.

Karl Rove has 7 of his 10 planets in the cardinal or action-oriented signs indicating that he is definitely in his own element when he is initiating and spearheading activities, particularly in the political arena, with three of his cardinal planets in Capricorn, the sign which rules politics and government.  His Saturn in Libra exactly square to his Capricorn Sun also gives him marked professional ambition and determination, and also an inclination to adopt hard, rigid, and judgmental attitudes.  Rove’s Mars is in individualistic- Aquarius, indicating that, even though he is a conservative and cautious Capricorn, he is also very freedom-loving, and doesn’t like to be fenced- in. It also suggests that he can be very original and unique in the way he asserts himself and in the strategies that he concocts, which is probably a main reason why he has become so influential. Rove also has his natal Moon, which governs feelings and emotions, in the maternal and nurturing sign of  Cancer, suggesting that deep inside, he is very sensitive and much more impressionable  and vulnerable then he may indicate on the surface.

One footnote to this blog 12/30/09:  Politicsdaily.com is reporting that Karl Rove got divorced last week from his wife, Darby.  They had been married for 24 years.  Rove’s above-mentioned Saturn return in Libra, the marriage sign, has been  going on for the last several months, which can often signify the ending of a partnership or marriage.   Too, the Pluto-Sun conjunction we discussed here can indicate the painful passing away of old structures to make way for new beginnings.

Mars Retrograde In Leo: Critique Your Re-runs

21 Monday Dec 2009

Mars, the empowering planet of action, and effective leadership, is retrograde in the theatrical sign of Leo, from December 20, 2009 to March 10, 2010.  When Mars is retrograde, it is best to postpone any major new undertakings in the world.  Rather, it is a time to pause and reflect, inwardly, on what you have already put in motion.  It’s a time to sit down in your Hollywood director’s chair and critique your past performances. Review whether the roles that you have been playing in your daily life are a suitable and worthy barometer of who and what you really are.

Also, it’s a time to evaluate how you have been playing those roles.  Are you delivering inspired performances, day to day, or are you only going through the motions, with very little spirit and enthusiasm for what you are doing? Use this Mars retrograde cycle to reflect on how you can improve your interaction with the world, so you can be more successful in getting what you want from it, when Mars finally goes direct in the spring. Maybe, for instance, you need assertiveness-training.    Or, maybe you should join Toastmasters, so you can become a more confident speaker and presenter. This retrograde period is an excellent time for engaging in those kinds of things.

If you pretty much like what you see on the silver screen, when you’re watching your old flicks, then you’re likely on the right track with your life.  You should probably just use this Mars retrograde time to quietly sit back and recharge your batteries for a while.  You may want to also think about perhaps adding a beefier role or two for yourself, when Mars goes direct, just to keep yourself challenged. Additionally, in this competitive day and age, it is always wise to keep yourself up-to-date and knowledgable on the latest technology, education, etc., as you potentially make yourself more valuable and indispensable, particularly in the workplace.

Now, if you’re looking back at your old repeats, and you’re  very disappointed in what you see, or maybe even a tad horrified, then you may need to scrap playing those parts, altogether in the future, and instead go about casting yourself in new roles that capture more of your true inner essence.  Why continue in roles that are all wrong for you that are not a true reflection of  yourself? In the long run, where does that really get you? This applies, too, if maybe you have only been playing bit parts in the past, and have been afraid to even get up on the stage, for fear of ridicule or fear of failure.  Use this backward Mars cycle to research endeavors  and activities that are a compatible fit for your unique skills, abilities, and experience, and that are going to inspire and motivate you to get up in the morning and live each day with unbridled enthusiasm and passion, in true Mars’ fashion. At the end of the day, that is what life is all about.  This is not a dress rehearsal.

Tiger Woods’ Horoscope: Is There A Saturn Uranus Collision?

16 Wednesday Dec 2009

Posted by Patrice Thompson in December Astrology 2009

Professional, celebrity-golfer, Tiger Woods’, sudden and very tragic fall from grace, has the planet Uranus’,  upsetting, signature swings, teeing off all over his horoscope, beginning with that bizarre SUV accident late November outside Tiger’s sprawling Florida estate.

And, if by chance, you haven’t yet heard about  any of the sordid hullabalo swirling around Tiger since that strange incident, you know zilch about his alleged extra-marital affairs with a seemingly endless procession of women, way below his level of prominence, than, consider yourself singularly lucky. You must also have been living, these past few weeks, somewhere else, like maybe on the Moon.  It seems each day, there is a new, alleged, dramatic development or twist reported in the media involving either Tiger’s family, or women he allegedly had affairs with, or announcements of corporate sponsors jumping ship.

Also, reportedly this past weekend,  a representative from a Florida child  welfare agency supposedly paid a visit to Tiger’s house, apparently to check up on the health and welfare of his two small children. It has also been reported that his wife, Elin, has recently purchased a large home in her native Sweden and rumors have been afloat that she is going to take their two kids and relocate there alone without Tiger.  Tiger also just announced on his website a few days ago that he is going to be taking an indefinite hiatus from professional golf to focus on his family and rapidly imploding personal situation.

The birth data information for Tiger that I have is from Astro-Databank, which lists his birth time as 10:50 PM on December 30, 1975 in Long Beach, California. That birth date gives Tiger, a professionally-ambitious, Saturn-ruled, Capricorn Sun, and also a 24 degree 25 minute perfectionist Virgo rising, and a 23 degree 56 minute energetic Gemini Career Midheaven. The warrior, and highly competitive planet, Mars, which is associated with athletes, is conjunct, or sitting right on top of, Tiger’s career house.

Meanwhile, that birthchart configuration means transiting Uranus, the planet often associated with colossal upsets, separations, and reversals, is presently sitting  smack near Tiger’s descendant, or seventh house of marriage. It is also exactly squared to his natal, third house,  and freedom-loving Sagittarian Moon, which governs women, his home, and family affairs, as well as Tiger’s basic emotional nature and public image. And, to put even more icing on this volatile cosmic cake, Uranus is also squared, or challengingly aspecting, his 10th house of career and professional standing and reputation.

In case you don’t know much about astrology, Uranus is often portrayed in it as the eccentric and rebellious, rogue planet, associated with sudden chaos, the unexpected, genius, even madness.  He is also commonly branded in traditional astrological circles as the Great Liberator, the Revolutionary Reformer, the Genius Inventor, the Nutty Professor, and the Mad Scientist, all rolled into one.  He represents the higher octave of Mercury, or the Higher Mind, while Mercury rules the lower, or Conscious Mind.  Uranus is also linked to Intuition and is associated with invention and technology.

Astrologically speaking, Uranus also represents a psychologically profound desire for change, and sometimes suddenly delivers, when he has the chance to do so, out and out anarchy. As a consequence of his intrinsically disruptive nature, Uranus habitually bumps heads, big time, with Saturn, who represents the exact antithesis of Uranus, and is astrologically billed as the Great Safety and Security Guard, who does whatever it takes to preserve the  law and order, and maintain the, often  boring, day-to-day sameness, of the established status quo.

But, at least with Saturn, the Fatherly Figure and Stable Provider, you know you will always have a steady paycheck coming in, every Friday, and a roof over your head, and money in the bank for any needed repairs, in the event that that roof above your head ever leaks or needs to be replaced.  And, most of all, you can live in the community well-respected, and can hold your head up high, which is always key and critically pivotal to Saturn’s status-conscious, psyche.

Yes, reliable ole’ Saturn, is normally thought of in astrology, as the dependable, conscientious guy who painstakingly sets up and stands by his apple cart, day after day, patiently pushing his wares, only to periodically have his recalcitrant, and willing adversary, Uranus, lurking somewhere in the background, ready to suddenly, sneak up on him, and tip over Saturn’s beloved apple cart, whenever he can.  Uranus doesn’t get that opportunity, that often with Saturn,  as Saturn is generally only ever away from his apple cart, for only a short time, and even when he is away from it, let’s say, on his lunch break, he is usually always still working,  and also trying to keep an eye on the apple cart, from the back of his head.

Uranus sometimes acts at odds with Saturn, not necessarily out of meanness, or sheer bulliness, but rather out of a genuine deep concern and caring for Saturn.  He is concerned about Saturn’s long-term welfare and future, and what it will look like in the end.  He’s  tired and deathly afraid of  seeing Saturn selling the same old apples, day after day, week after week, year after year. He wants to shake Saturn up, maybe ignite a fire under him, so that he will try to do something fresh and new, at least occasionally.

Yes,  Uranus always wants to attempt to  shatter Saturn’s routine, and thereby create, what he feels for Saturn, is a far more exciting and freer world for him, one in which Saturn can live, and move, and have his being, in a wholly novel, untested and untried manner.  See, the way Uranus views it, he doesn’t want Saturn to die with regret that Saturn had never ventured out beyond the safety and security of that ever present apple cart.  You reckon, in Tiger’s case, we can safely substitute, the golf cart, for the apple cart?

Maybe Tiger allegedly, and perhaps, unwittingly, sabotaged himself and his image because he was simply bored and tired of his everyday life.  Maybe he thought that he could allegedly, and quietly, commit a few transgressions, sow a few wild oats, and never be caught, never be held accountable by Saturn, that Saturn would let him wreak a bit of dissent, and get away with it, so to speak, because of all that he had done for Saturn over the course of his lifetime.  He had, after all, been playing golf since the age of two and had become the first billionaire in the world of sports, definitely not lightweight accomplishments.

It would perhaps seem plausible that Saturn would have the inclination to cut Tiger at least a small measure of slack,  so Tiger could explore what else was out there, as Tiger had seemed to have towed the Saturn line for so long, religiously conformed for so long to Saturn’s safe way of thinking.  The problem is, however,  whenever one does overthrow certain structures and conventions in one’s life, even for a short period of time, there usually is  also a price to pay, and or a backlash, as a result.  It is a natural part of cause and effect. But then again, none of us knows exactly what Tiger was ever thinking in his head, and what he was ever really like, deep within himself, what urges were ever compelling his behavior.

To be sure, astrologically, too, there is also much more at play in Tiger’s horoscope than just Uranus calling the shots in his swift departure downward, however, Uranus has been pretty active in Tiger’s horoscope the last seven years.  While that slow-moving, rebellious Uranian energy, has potentially been resonating in Tiger for quite a while, only now  is the public, represented astrologically by the Moon, finding out about Tiger’s shadow side, because only now is Uranus exactly squaring his Moon.  Beside public image,  the Moon also rules women, and all of a sudden, we are hearing, out of the blue, from various women, some with very, very colorful and dubious pasts, claiming to have had intimate relationships with him.

Tiger naturally portrays a clean-cut image, with his tidy, quiet, Virgo rising.  The rising sign is the mask that one shows to the world and not what one is necessarily like deep down inside.  Tiger also has, however, the mysterious and enigmatic Pluto in Libra, The Lord of Death and the Great Keeper of Secrets, in his first house,  as well, and that can be indicative of someone who is naturally very private and hidden,  not too mention, very  intense, power-hungry, driven and controlling. Pluto can give the individual very deep perceptions, and very strong desires, and passions, which sometimes, left unchecked, can lead to obsessions, self-destructive behavior, manipulation, and even abuses of power.  Whether any of this is applicable to Tiger, in real life, however, we do not know, only Tiger knows how he is inside.  Again, we are only engaging in astrological speculation and theory here.

Pluto is also square to Tiger’s natal Sun, which rules his basic self-expression, as well as opposite to his pioneering natal Jupiter, the planet of expansion, in his seventh house of the public.  These three planets form a powerful T-Square in his chart  in the action-oriented cardinal signs and together they speak to his powerful potential ability to transform and captivate the world in bold ways, which up until now, has been centered around his unbelievable abilities in the field of golf.

Tiger also has his  natal Venus, the love planet, in the passionate Pluto-ruled sign of Scorpio, in the third house of the conscious mind.  Having Venus there could possibly create more of a mental focus on romance  and relationships, and with his Venus in the more sexual sign of Scorpio, it could potentially be that intense  relationships could be in some way, a potent draw, or even an obsession for him, as again Scorpio can give very deep desires.   But do keep in mind, that this is all mere astrological conjecture, at this point, and not necessarily, at all, how Tiger really is.

What also speaks out to me in Tiger’s chart, is his Neptune in Sagittarius, along side Venus, in the third house of the mind.  Neptune  is the planet known as the Great Escapist and Deceiver, the Master weaver of Illusion.  Neptune is  opposite Mars in Tiger’s chart.  Mars again rules the competitive drive and spirit, the warrior inside, and also, last, but not least, one’s sex drive.  Neptune and Mars aligned together in a chart can sometimes be indicative of someone who is a visionary and able to make manifest great dreams.  It can also, however, be indicative of someone who engages in escapist, addictive behaviors, as an outlet to perhaps flee the harsh pressures of reality.  I have seen horoscopes with this configuration of individuals who are either drug addicts or alcoholics. Of course, this is not to say, again, that Tiger, by any means, is so inclined this way, it is just what I have seen from my experience doing horoscopes over the years.  There have also been various reports in the media that Tiger could actually be addicted to sex, and that is why he has allegedybehaved in this manner.  Maybe also with Neptune natally there in Tiger’s third house, his immediate judgements and every-day perceptions, could be impaired, or susceptible to occasional vague confusion, distortion, even paranoia, from time to time.

It is also the nature of Neptune to sometimes stretch the truth, and not always communicate  with others in a forthright and honest way, especially when it is in the communication houses or prominentally paired with another planet, such as Mercury or the Moon. On another level, many writers, even the late poet Emily Dickinson, had, or have, Neptune here, which can also help to endow someone with a rich imagination and even acting ability. The various planetary energies can always play out in a myriad number of ways, good or bad, healthy or unhealthy.  It is always up to the individual, in the end, how the energies are personally harnessed and expressed.

Tiger also has Sun square Jupiter in his horoscope, an influence that Frank Sinatra also had. That influence can be very lucky and expansive for the natives who have it, provide them with all the riches of the world. On the other hand, it can also, from time to time, make the individual wasteful and extravagant with his resources, or even arrogant.

What happens with Tiger in the future, from this point on, no one knows, not even Tiger.  But I suspect, from looking at his horoscope, that he may have a potentially bumpy road ahead, at least emotionally, as transiting erratic Uranus continues to linger through his chart a while longer.  Of course, Uranus can also potentially give Tiger a fresh and new perspective, force him to see himself and his life in a  whole brand new way that he hadn’t been able to do before, and that may be ultimately regenerating for him.

But, wait. The next big planetary contender for Tiger could again be, well, Saturn. Yes, serious and steady Saturn, is now residing in Tiger’s first house of new beginnings, astrologically always one of the most important passages for an individual in their life time, and one that they will have roughly every thirty years.  It will be there until late 2011. Saturn, the sobering Reality God, will be heavily weighing in now on the unsteady and uncertain reality that Uranus has chaotically ushered in.  Saturn will probably be patiently sitting down, day after day, night after night, with Tiger, admonishing him, encouraging him, to get that apple cart standing upright again.

December 14th Sun/Uranus Today: Heard About any Elvis Sightings?

Today the transiting “truth-seeking” Sun in Sagittarius squares “loose cannon” Uranus in Pisces. You may want to brace yourself for a rendezvous with any or all of the following possible scenarios today:

1. You have a chance encounter with an enlightened astrologer in a nunnery, which makes you want to suddenly quit your job, so as to be able to embark on a life-long quest for self-discovery, as you seek to glean the true meaning of  midpoints, fixed stars and retrograde planets.

2. You go visit your ailing Aunt Bertha in the hospital and you have an unexpected  meeting with an aging, iconoclastic scientist in the hospital elevator, who still believes that the earth is flat and Elvis is alive and thriving in Memphis.

3. You suddenly feel an urge to shuck corporate America and  put on your 40-year-old bellbottoms and hippie beads and start growing a beard.

Hopefully, you get my drift.  Weird, wacky experiences can, and usually do happen, both internally and externally, when the Sun shines its  bright light on wobbly, unconventional Uranus, so be prepared for the unexpected.

If you feel you still must, however,  “do your own thing today, baby”,  by all means do so, but with some level of moderation, less you go overboard and end up in a heap of trouble, maybe even get yourself arrested for breaking too many laws and attempting to create pure anarchy and utter chaos in society.

Also practice more tolerance for other people today, who may also feel more compelled now to express their own unique brand of individualism, even if, what they are expressing, might strike you as “very goofy and oddball.”

Positive Personal Impact Mars Transiting Leo

Mars is, and always will be, the Big Cheese in my natal horoscope or at least he pulls many of the  strings in my neck of the universe.  I have a 2 degree Aries rising with my natal Mars in Capricorn in my tenth house, conjunct my midheaven, and square to my Ascendant.  Needless to say, I know all about this Macho Warrior Prince, and how he can impact a life.

Overall, I would say that this little guy’s influence, over the course of my life, has been very positive for me, as the martian-energy has always given me natural courage, enthusiasm,  and self-confidence to try new things, combined with a certain innate confidence that I can be successful at whatever it is that I want to do. Of course with Mars, you can easily bite off more than you can chew, and plum wear yourself out, from time to time, if not much of the time. Fortunately for me, though, I am more cautious and grounded since Mars is in Capricorn and the Sun is in show- me- the- money Taurus. I still get the big manic Mars ideas but the earth part of me instantly plays Devil’s Advocate and puts up resistance and, as a consequence, balances me out. But, not always.

So, when I saw a few weeks ago that transiting Mars in Leo was going to be exactlysquaring both my Sun and Mercury in Taurus in my second house of money and possessions for the entire month of December, I wondered what the heck was going to be going on with me then? Would I try, and believe that I could, rebuild the Roman empire then?  Transiting Mars was also going to be  simultaneously exactly conjunct my sixth house of work and health.

Well, I am here to report that I am surviving, even thriving, with all this Mars energy. Yes,  I have erected some of that Roman empire, and working on the rest. Actually, I have never felt better.  I feel focused, my energy is directed, and, yes, I have even started blogging, doing my very first blog the day transiting Mercury conjuncted my tenth house Mars!!!

Yes, Mars has self-motivated me with a wealth of ideas, so many thoughts on my mind now that I am having trouble sleeping at night.  Also, I almost burned down my house a week ago when I left the tea kettle on the stove and completely forgot about it.  When the three firemen were standing in my kitchen demonstrating to me how a stove works and how to properly use it,  I kept thinking, wow, this is really cool, this is what Mars exactly square your Sun does.  For those new to astrology, Mars rules fire.

By the way, my leaf blower also started on fire a few days before the tea kettle incident.

“The Voice” Frank Sinatra’s Horoscope

Probably one of the biggest highlights in my late mother’s life was when she went to see, for the very first time, and only time, Frank Sinatra, Ole’ Blue Eyes, perform live at a concert in Michigan.  I can’t remember the exact year that it was, but I know it was in the latter portion of his career that she saw him.  She was so excited.

Frank Sinatra left all of us with such an incredible and singular legacy when he died of a heart attack on May 14, 1998 at the age of 82. He had recorded over 1200 songs and appeared in over 63 films. He was without a doubt, a giant, with a capital G, and really no one else has come along to fill his shoes, in my opinion.

Frank was a straight-shooting Sagittarian, with also Mercury, the communicator, closely conjunct in that sign. He was born December 12, 1915 at 3:00 A.M. in Hoboken, NJ, according to birth data information at Astro-Databank.  That birth time gives him a 28 degree artistic and pleasant-looking Libra ascendant, or rising sign, and puts charismatic Neptune exactly conjunct his Midheaven, at 3 degrees Leo, the sign of the consummate performer.  The Midheaven rules one’s career, reputation, and public life, in general.

With the Master Artist and Actor, and weaver of illusion, Neptune in Leo,  at the very top of his chart,  Frank was magically able to leave us spellbound whenever he sang or performed. All he had to do was sing one note, and we were hooked. You stopped whatever else you were doing to listen to Frank Sinatra whenever he came on the radio, or at least I did. He was also a mesmerizing actor and won various awards for acting, including an Academy Award in 1954, for Best Supporting Actor in ‘From Here To Eternity’, which he won when lucky Jupiter in Gemini was transiting exactly opposite his Sagittarius Sun, and transiting Uranus in Cancer, unveiling his dramatic genius, was exactly trine his fifth house Jupiter in Pisces.

He additionally had Mars in self-expressive Leo in his tenth house, which gave him great physical vitality and drive, and again, more creative energy, as well as kingly authority.  Also, going back to Neptune, a minute, in the 10th house, that is an influence that can be associated at times with scandal and I recall during his life there were always whispers that he was somehow affiliated with the Mob.

Frank Sinatra created a wave of gossip when he became romantically-linked to  young Aquarian-native, Mia Farrow.  He met Mia reportedly in October of 1964, when transiting Uranus, the rebellious ruler of Aquarius, was  exactly trine to his Venus, the love planet.  Uranus-Venus alliances are often very exciting and different, but much of the time they do not last, once the newness and thrill of the relationship wears off. He  married Mia in 1966, with Uranus square to his Sun. They divorced a couple years later when Frank had Pluto squaring his Sun, an indication of endings. I think from what I read, however, that Frank and Mia always remained on friendly terms with each other.

Sinatra had his  Moon, which governs feelings and emotions, exactly on his fifth house cusp.  It was in the very sensitive and intuitive sign of Pisces and it  was closely trined to his natal Pluto in Cancer, in his 9th house of higher wisdom and inspiration. The fifth house rules affairs of the heart, creative  talents, and gifts.  This powerful Moon-Pluto influence, combined with his Neptune on his Midheaven, helped Frank emotionally connect with the public at the very deepest levels in a very awe-inspiring, almost religious way.  The public, indeed, dearly loved and worshipped Frank, although he also had his share of detractors, being a fiery, and sometimes reckless, impetuous Sagittarian.  With Moon and Jupiter in Pisces, too, in his romance house, no telling how many arrows he shot to lovely, fair maidens with his cupid’s bow, but suffice it to say, that it was probably some Jupiterian, colossal number.

He was married four times and finally found an enduring relationship with his last wife, Barbara Marx, the widow of Zeppo Marx, who he married in July of 1976, when he had Uranus setting off a regenerating grand  water trine to his Moon and Pluto in his chart. This influence delivered to him a beautiful, powerful woman and soul mate (Moon) who would eventually help him to transform (Pluto) his lifestyle, and settle down a spell.  He also had Venus in Capricorn in his natal chart, which boded well for being able to have a serious, deep, long-lasting  relationship with a woman that he respected.

In his chart, Sinatra’s Pisces  Jupiter was also closely trined to his natal 9th house Saturn in Cancer, so not only was he  able to readily manifest his massive talents and gifts, he was also able to richly cash in on the rewards of  his many, gargantuan efforts. He left this planet a very wealthy man.  He also had his Sun exactly square to his natal Jupiter, often another indication  of material wealth and abundance, and being able to live life on a very lavish scale, although sometimes with the square there is also a tendency to squander resources, as well.

Regrettably, Frank’s flame on earth finally went out that fateful spring day, in mid-May, eleven years ago, when he had transiting Neptune in Aquarius, conjunct his fourth house cusp (which rules conditions at the end of life) exactly opposite to his natal 10th house, Neptune in Leo.  Transiting Mercury that day, also acted as a trigger, with an applying square to the 2 degree Neptune-Neptune opposition. It was sadly Frank’s time to hang his hat up for good.  He had surely, however, woven enough magic on this planet to last an eternity.

A Cosmic Birthday Tribute: To Emily Dickinson

America’s most celebrated female poet, Emily Dickinson, was reportedly born December 10, 1830, at 4:40 A.M. in Amherst, Massachusetts.  A glimpse into her natal horoscope depicts a heavenly alignment at work in her stars that, no doubt, masterfully guided her to manifest her self-expression through writing and poetry.

We find prolific Jupiter, the planet associated with teaching and writing, exactly  conjoined with Neptune in her chart, the  mystical, other-worldly, visionary planet of the imagination.  Both of these planets were  situated on the cusp, or doorway, of Emily’s third house of the mind and communication, in the serious and reflective sign of Capricorn.  The Capricorn placement here indicates that she may have had a more subdued, introverted  communication style with others. Emily was supposedly shy and retiring in her private life, as is the case with so many writers.

Her Sun, Mercury, and Venus, were also closely conjunct in Jupiter-ruled Sagittarius, giving further opportunity for her to shine through writing. These three celestial bodies were all situated in her second house of  money, values and self-worth, showing how she would be inclined to support herself , along with what she likely valued most in her life, her writing.

Uranus, the planet that governs both genius and madness, was also positioned in her third house of the mind, endowing her with an aptitiude for original and one-of-a-kind thinking, along with a measure of quirkiness and eccentricity. She reportedly only wore white clothing and was pretty much a recluse, particularly later in life. She also never married.

Adding to her need for privacy and seclusion was her enigmatic, Pluto-ruled, Scorpio Ascendant, which generally correlates with someone who is usually not altogether comfortable revealing themselves to others in an outwardly manner. There is normally an air of mystery and palpable power to those who have Scorpio rising. The rising sign shows how the person directly projects themselves in the world and in Scorpio often the energy omitted is “keep away.”

Further reiterating her tendency to withdraw from the world was the placement of her artistic, beauty-loving Libra Moon, on her twelth house cusp, which is the house associated with seclusion and retreat.  The Moon governs one’s emotional nature and feelings, and with it tucked away in this house, she would automatically feel most at ease reveling in the comfort and sanctuary of  her own  private world. The Moon’s placement here also greatly sensitized her and allowed her to feel things much more deeply than the average person. The Moon was also well-aspected by sextile to her three Sagittarian planets, showing again her abundant gift for expressing herself  through her writing.

Emily’s Moon was also exactly square to her natal Jupiter and Neptune conjunction in her third house. It could be that her overly active imagination may have also spawned irrational fears, vulnerability, and or paranoia, and maybe that is why she preferred to keep her door closed to the outside world, although she allegedly affirmed to others that, in order to be creative, it was necessary for her to isolate herself from the world.

Emily had the very powerful configuration of Mars conjunct Pluto, the ruler of her ascendant, in the self-initiating sign of Aries, which is also ruled by Mars.  Both of these planets were situated in her fifth house of children, self-expression, and creativity.  Mars is the energy and momentum planet, and Pluto is the planet of death and rebirth.  Often when these two planets are together, not only is the individual a potent source to be reckoned with, they often also serve as a transforming  agent or catalyst, in some way, for the world at large.  Oprah Winfrey and Paul McCartney are two other examples of individuals with strong Mars-Pluto influences in their horoscopes.

While Emily Dickinson never had any children, in the traditional sense, you could certainly categorize  her unrivaled and voluminous output of  poetry as her creative offspring.  The intense Mars-Pluto conjunction in this house shows the deep momentum and passion that must have been consuming and relentlessly driving her to create her poetry.

Emily reportedly, and remarkably,  only had seven poems published anonymously in her life time.  It was  apparently only after her death that  her sister uncovered a manuscript of more than 900 poems that Emily had written,  further testament to the complex genuis and secretiveness operating inside the woman, with her Mars and Pluto in the fifth house, and, of course, other astrological influences.  It is also somewhat cosmically understandable that only after death, ruled by Pluto here,  would she finally be able to have the hugely transforming impact on others that her horoscope originally suggested.

(Astro.com for birth data and bio information)

LMR quotes biographer Richard B. Sewall, “Life of Emily Dickinson,” (Vol 2 p.321, “Her father entered his new daughter’s name and the time, five o’clock in the morning.” Valerie Vaughan, an astrologer-librarian-resident of Amherst, MA, confirms the time from Dorothy Waugh, “Emily Dickinson Briefly,” a respectable piece of scholarship based on original documents such as letters written by Emily. The book states that “the family had sent for the doctor at midnight.” The doctor emerged from the birthing room and announced that it was a girl “just as the clock in the hall struck five a.m.” We may consider that the birth was some minutes prior to 5:00 AM, allowing the doctor time to clean up.

(AFA 3/1962 had given 11:46 PM, “time recorded as near midnight.”)
